Bolvar Fordragon might soon encounter you in the real world as well. The WoW character has received a cosplay that looks stunningly real and caused a stir at BlizzCon 2021.
For many players, BlizzCon is just a collection of information about new announcements, such as for World of Warcraft or Diablo 4. However, some may also appreciate the community aspects.
At the community events, things are a bit more subdued, for instance during the cosplay competition, which reveals amazing projects every year. This year, Hartigan Cosplay rightfully won for their portrayal of Bolvar Fordragon.
26 days of work went into this fantastic WoW cosplay
This cosplay impressed at BlizzCon 2021: Following BlizzCon, Hartigan Cosplay released a nearly 5-minute clip showcasing the entire transformation into Bolvar Fordragon. Reviewing the video makes it clear that the cosplay is essentially more of a full-body suit, and one probably has to sweat quite a bit underneath.
Especially the level of detail and the cool effects give the former Lich King a convincing look. The entire body and the hammer are equipped with pulsating lights, and small trails of smoke come from the “wounds” on the upper body, emphasizing that Bolvar is still glowing.
Putting on the entire costume alone takes about 12 minutes. The armor contains around 1,000 LEDs, and the entire costume has consumed over 26 days of pure work time. A gigantic effort, but the result is convincing.
Many even believe that this cosplay looks so convincing that it could easily fit into a Warcraft live-action film.
What kind of character is Bolvar actually? Bolvar Fordragon did not always have this dark form. For a long time, he was a hero of the Alliance, protecting the then-child prince Anduin from many dangers. In the expansion “Wrath of the Lich King”, he led an attack, together with the Horde, against Arthas the Lich King.
All troops of the Horde and Alliance were, however, infected by an ambush from a new substance of the Forsaken and were doomed to death. The red dragonflight wanted to contain the plague and therefore burned all victims with dragon fire.
However, Bolvar survived in his burned form and was tortured by the Lich King in Icecrown.
Since there must “always be a Lich King”, Bolvar took on this role after Arthas was defeated.
This backstory makes Bolvar one of the most important characters of the current expansion Shadowlands, which is why we will see more of him in Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination.
