Rank 5 – Triceratops

What kind of mount is this? True to the FFXIV tradition of crazy flying mounts, the Triceratops can also carry you high into the skies. While the justification for its flying abilities at least makes some more sense than some of its kin, at least for FFXIV standards.
The secret lies in its saddle. The good piece was infused with ancient Ronkan magic, enabling an artifact found deep within the ruins of the fallen Ronkan cities. And of course, such a priceless artifact was used to allow a dinosaur to fly.
Why is it so rare? Obtaining the Triceratops is as time-consuming as the Centurio Tiger, although not quite as ruthless. For the dino, you need to slay 2,000 A-rank monsters. However, they must only be hunt monsters from the Shadowbringers areas.
The same applies to the S-ranks, although the Triceratops is considerably more lenient in this regard. For the mount, in addition to the 2,000 A monsters, you only need a “mere” 200 A-rank hunt monsters.
Rank 4 – Pteranodon

What kind of mount is this? Pteranodons are pretty much the only dinosaur mounts in FFXIV where flying actually makes sense. Native to the floating islands of the Diadem, these beasts initially posed a major threat to adventurers who dared to set foot on these islands.
But one of the Pteranodon discovered that peaceful coexistence can also have its advantages. It fed on scraps thrown to it by the crews of the airships and became almost tame. Friendship indeed goes through the stomach.
Why is it so rare? To obtain the Pteranodon, players must grind hard. The piece is only available as a reward for achieving over 500,000 points in score ranking with every single collector and craft class while rebuilding Ishgard.
This happens by turning in many self-crafted and collected items to the rebuilding efforts. In the current rankings for the Ishgard talent tournament, you can see that very few manage to do so.
Rank 3 – Epimetheus

What kind of mount is this? As has been the case with many other mounts, players first encounter Epimetheus in the form of a boss fight. On the battlefield of Ghimlyt, they must face the machine of the Garlean.
After the battle, the engineers of Garlond managed to steal the blueprints for the machine and rebuild it themselves. However, they miscalculated the size quite a bit. The original was quite a bit more impressive.
Why is it so rare? The rarity of Epimetheus is based on two foundations. First: The mount is no longer available. Players could earn it by playing Season 14 of the competitive PVP mode FEAST.
Second: Only the top 100 players from the FEAST rankings could obtain the mount. This applied especially per data center. This means players from one server not only competed with each other but also with players from other servers in the same data center.

What are these mounts? The second place is shared by a whole series of mounts.
- Feenhund-Einzelgänger
- Magitek-Transporter
- Proto-Transporter
- Magna Rotula
- Magna Rotula X
- Menoetius
- Magitek-Transporter NEO
All these mounts belong to only about 0.1 % of the existing characters in FFXIV. Except for the Feenhund, which is actually a non-sentient being, they are all creations of the Garlean. Whether it’s miserable experiments on living beings like the Magna Rotulas or improvements to the ancient Allagan artifacts, the Garlean just cannot keep their fingers off technology.
Why are they so rare? All these mounts have one thing in common: They were available in earlier seasons of the competitive PVP mode FEAST and can no longer be obtained.
Players who made it into the top 100 in the solo ranking in the corresponding seasons can now own these incredibly rare mounts.

- Less than 0.1 % of all characters
What are these mounts? The first place is also occupied by several mounts:
- Feenhund-Alphatier
- Höllenhund-Alphatier
- Höllenhund-Einzelgänger
Even though these mounts may outwardly appear to be relatively normal, albeit really large dogs, they are actually vicious non-sentient beings. They typically attack directly when a human approaches them. It required a lot of work and patience to tame these wild beasts until it was safe enough to use them as mounts.
Although the numbers provided for these mounts on FFXIVcollect show 0, it does not mean that no one possesses them. It simply means less than 0.1 %, and the site does not filter so finely.
Why are they so rare? These 3 mounts could only be obtained for a limited time in PVP. While the Höllenhund-Einzelgänger was obtained by the top 100 solo players in data center season 3 of FEAST, the other two were tied to the group rankings of seasons 3 and 4.
The top 30 groups could own the Feenhund and Höllenhund-Alphatier mounts. Since FEAST groups consist of 4 players, around 120 characters per data center were able to acquire them.
