We present you the top 10 rarest mounts in Final Fantasy XIV. Spoiler: There are more than 10 mounts.
In Final Fantasy XIV, there are now over 100 different powerful mounts and vehicles with which you can travel the world. Some of them are extremely rare and are owned by only a handful of players. Does one of them belong to you?
How is rarity determined? The rarity of mounts is tracked by the site FFXIVcollect.com. It scans the official FFXIV site Lodestone and searches the profiles of players where all mounts owned by the character are listed.
Since mounts and companions cannot be hidden unlike achievements, the value of the site is reliable.
Rank 10 – Goobbue
- 1.9 % of all characters
What kind of mount is this? Goobbue was the second type of mount introduced in FFXIV after Chocobos. Originally, these massive beasts were considered untameable because they were simply too powerful. However, in a faraway land, humans managed to bring them under control for the first time, and this art spread to Eorzea.
During the last days of FFXIV 1.0, a wall of Goobbues protected the gates of the city-state Ul’dah from monsters. It is an event that made it into our top FFXIV trivia.
Why is it rare? The reason for the rarity of Goobbue is that it is no longer available. During the 1.0 version of Final Fantasy XIV, players who reached level 30 could pick it up from an NPC. This has not been possible since the release of A Realm Reborn in 2013.
While there is a mount that resembles Goobbue and can be obtained from the Wild Tribe of the Sylphs, it does look a bit different.
Rank 9 – Morbol
- 1.8 % of all characters
What kind of mount is this? Every player who has played a Final Fantasy will shudder at the name Morbol. These tentacled creatures have spread fear and terror since the beginning of the series with their bad breath.
Morbol inflicts characters with numerous negative status effects and leaves them to die in a miserable state. But in FFXIV, players can tame these corrosive monsters and use them as mounts.
Why is it so rare? Players who want the tentacled mount must complete a whole range of tasks and grinding. First and foremost, they need to level the special “solo” job Blue Mage to level 60 and learn all necessary spells from it. This is only possible by fighting the monsters that use these spells.
Once that is done, you also need 7 more Blue Mages to complete the final tier boss fights of the raids “The Binding Coil of Bahamut” and “Alexander” at levels 50 and 60 respectively.
Therefore, players must not only be well-versed in the Blue Mage job and handle its abilities, but also have the corresponding strategies for a total of 6 raid battles.
Rank 8 – Incitatus

- 1.4 % of all characters
What kind of mount is this? Compared to most other mounts on our list, Incitatus is a relatively new mount. It was introduced with patch 5.3 in August 2020. It was once pampered and spoiled by the clever merchant Rowena, who had a soft spot for the beautiful horse.
As an intelligent animal that understands human language, it often listened to Khloe Aliapoh recounting adventure stories to her friends. This inspired the horse to venture out into the world itself.
Why is it so rare? It can be exchanged for 600 Dream Sheets at the NPC Master Reineke, but to obtain those, players need to grind every week. First, players must succeed in the boss fight against the primal Shiva as a Dream Trial.
The fight itself can be quite tough when done with random players. Afterwards, they have a chance to play the lottery game “Dream Board,” where they can uncover up to 10 fields to collect points. It is random how many sheets a player receives per week, which means not everyone has been able to collect enough sheets for the mount.
Alternatively, you can obtain the horse from Khloe’s Gold Certificate or buy it at the market board, but it costs an arm and a leg there.
Rank 7 – Centurio Tiger

- 1 % of all characters
What kind of mount is this? The Centurio Clan attracts adventurers from Eorzea not only with its rewards but also with the challenge to go out into the world and hunt down a truly massive monster.
One such adventurer managed to hunt down a strong monster of rank S, but couldn’t bring himself to kill the cub of the beast. His clan membership was revoked, but none of the remaining hunters could bring themselves to kill the little one either.
Why is it so rare? The Centurio Tiger is one of the mounts tied to achievements. To own the kitty, players must slay a hefty 2,000 hunt monsters of rank A and S.
These monsters have their own respawn timers and sometimes also conditions that need to be met for them to appear. The higher-level ones in Shadowbringers areas definitely cannot be taken down alone. Accordingly, very few players have this mount.
Rank 6 – Astrope
- 0.9 % of all characters
What kind of mount is this? The first sighting of Astrope was extremely confusing for scholars, forcing them to rewrite their books on Pegasi. Until then, there was a belief that Pegasi could not have horns or grow that large.
Astrope, however, is a mature version of a normal Pegasus but is extremely shy. The winged colossus only appears rarely and allows only the friendliest adventurers to ride on its back. However, there is enough space on its massive back for two people.
Why is it so rare? Although Astrope has been in the game for 5 years, very few people have the mount. It is tied to the Mentor system. To help new players in FFXIV, experienced adventurers can take on the rank of Mentor and complete the daily random content: Mentor.
This random content includes almost all instanced content of FFXIV and allows mentors to participate in battles or dungeons where players are urgently needed. To obtain the mount, one must successfully complete 2,000 such contents.
However, since difficult content like extreme fights is also included in the list, one must often endure defeats.
