NCSoft is planning a sequel to the Lineage series with the MMORPG Project TL for PC and consoles. New details have been revealed, while the release date is being pushed further back.
What is the status of Project TL? During the conference call for the first quarter of 2020, developer NCSoft revealed that work on Project TL is progressing.
A closed beta for the MMORPG is still scheduled to take place in 2020 based on player feedback. The development will then continue. A release date is expected to be addressed only in 2021 (via MMOCulture).
This significantly delays Project TL, which was supposed to “definitely” be released in 2019.
MMORPG for Lineage was close to a global beta in 2017
What is behind Project TL? Originally, the MMORPG was announced under the title “Lineage Eternal” and was far along in development. It was considered by many to be the hope for MMORPGs and was intended to continue the successful Lineage series.
In 2016, the game entered a closed beta and was supposed to launch globally in 2017. However, the MMORPG was deemed too “grindy” by even the Korean players and not innovative enough, leading to Lineage Eternal being put on hold in 2017.
From the remnants, a new game named Project TL was created, which even received a new engine. But so far, we know very little about the upcoming MMORPG.
What is known about Project TL? The following information is currently available about the MMORPG:
- It is being developed in Unreal Engine 4.
- It is set to be released for PC and consoles.
- It will be an action RPG from an isometric perspective, similar to Lost Ark.
- Lineage Eternal was supposed to release worldwide, which is also expected for Project TL.
In January 2020, NCSoft released 10 new images of Project TL. However, these are mainly concept images and not in-game screenshots. Only the previously linked trailer from 2017 provides insight into the game. Whether this represents the current state of the game is unknown.
Thus, information about one of the most promising MMORPGs in development is rather scarce. However, this should hopefully change with the start of the beta.
