In The Elder Scrolls Online, there are often issues with fake tanks, toxic players, or people who simply aren’t very good, especially in random groups. However, a kind player impressed his group and the community with his selflessness.
What happened? The reddit user and ESO player gandalf69420 was playing with a random group in the Blackheart Haven dungeon. But it wasn’t going smoothly. One of the DPS dealt too little damage.
This was probably because he preferred to execute heavy attacks. They return energy in ESO but take longer to execute, negatively impacting damage output.
Therefore, he offered his help and gave the DPS some tips on attacking, showing him among other things how to execute a good rotation of light attacks. This way, the player would also perform well in later veteran dungeons and not fail.
How it continued: The dungeon run was likely successful, and gandalf69420 was quite surprised when he suddenly received a message from the DPS in the group. It simply said, “Thank you for not being toxic.”
Accompanying were 50,000 silver coins, a rather generous sum of in-game currency.
Players celebrate helpful tank – “That’s why I love the ESO community”
The helpful tank saw his actions as normal and declared in a reddit post about the situation that he would return the money.
He doesn’t need it and never intended to profit. However, it concerns him that he should be rewarded for simply not being a toxic jerk.
Community celebrates tank: The action by gandalf69420 was well received by users on reddit. One user immediately wrote, “Damn, that’s why I love this community!”
However, other users confirmed gandalf69420’s fears and provided examples of how they were kicked from groups for stating that they weren’t very familiar with the dungeon mechanics.

And then there are, of course, players who intentionally sign up for the wrong role in dungeons and respond curtly when pointed out. As such cases seem to occur frequently, the users in the mentioned example were particularly pleased and happy that things can sometimes go differently.
Especially fake tanks are particularly bad, as they are actually DPS players who sign up as tanks to quickly get into the dungeon. They hope that the dungeon run will somehow work out, and in the end, often the whole group fails and everyone is upset.
Our MeinMMO author Larissa Then has a special anger towards such fake tanks, as you can read here.
