Kos and the Orphan of Kos go together, and although only one of them is confronted, both are powerful. After the remains of Kos washed ashore at the Fisherman’s Village, the residents began to worship her – in return, they received blessings in the form of food, fish, and other creatures from the sea.
However, Kos caused the inhabitants to transform. When Byrgenwerth learned of their existence, they sent hunters, including Maria and Gehrman, to investigate and torture the residents. Since Kos was still pregnant at the time, the hunters found her and her unborn child – the Orphan of Kos.
Due to the misdeeds committed by these hunters, Kos cursed them and their descendants for all eternity, which ultimately led to the creation of the Hunter’s Nightmare. If they die, they end up there and must slay beasts for eternity.
What makes Kos and her child so powerful is primarily their ability to transform an entire place as well as the creation of the nightmare in which some of the strongest hunters are trapped.
