The streamer ExoHydraX has been banned by Twitch. She believes it’s because of her figure and her background. Because she is black, she has become the target of trolls. They reported her. The ban by Twitch then came because she has so many curves.
Who is ExoHydraX? She is a relatively small streamer on Twitch with about 4500 followers. In the last 365 days, she has streamed “only” 80 hours (via sullygnome). Mostly Call of Duty.
Recently, she was active in the “Just Chatting” section. There, she danced in a Fortnite style among other things.
Third ban leads to exit from Twitch
What was the ban? The streamer was banned by Twitch “indefinitely”.
ExoHydraX says she had already been temporarily banned twice before:
- Once for drinking during a stream
- once due to her cleavage
The third and thus permanent ban has now come because “racist trolls” have attacked her, as she is a French woman of North African descent. The trolls reported her in masses for allegedly behaving inappropriately.
Trolls reported the streamer
This is what the streamer says: In a conversation with the site Kotaku, the streamer complains about a “mass of French trolls”. They said terrible things to her. Consequently, she reacted emotionally, and more and more trolls entered her Twitch channel.
As a small streamer, she does not have a moderation team to protect herself from such things.
The trolls insulted her, racially abused her, and then got her banned from Twitch with their reports. This was her most successful stream up to that point with 750 viewers at its peak.
For the streamer, this is hard to bear. She says: “It feels like they have won.”
When I wear something normal, it looks offensive
This bothers the streamer: ExoHydraX thinks a major problem is her figure. She would get banned on Twitch for an outfit that she also wears when shopping. Because of her figure, normal clothes look offensive on her, as the clothes accentuate her curves.
There are unfair standards for women with large breasts:
Two girls with completely different body types, but wearing the same shirt, are treated completely differently. I think Twitch needs to establish new rules for clothing. What is allowed and what is not allowed?
ExoHydraX says that even in school she could not wear what other girls wore. What was okay for them looked offensive on her.
As an adult, she can almost only wear men’s T-shirts to avoid accentuating her chest. Aside from a breast reduction, there is nothing she can do.
These are the reactions: In the forum of Livestreamfails, the case is discussed. Here, the majority seems to be on the side of the streamer:
- It is said that Twitch employees actually tend to ban women with large breasts – the streamer “Velvet” has also been banned while other streamers with different figures remain unbanned
- The accusation arises that Twitch spares the “big” female streamers like the cat thrower
- and one wishes for clear guidelines and consistency regarding bans in general
Twitch inconsistent bans strike again as small streamer Exohydrax gets perma banned for her cleavage. When will Amouranth, Alinity and co get the same treatment? What’s going on at Twitch? They seem to always target smaller streamers and foreigners from r/LivestreamFail
What lies behind it: The general conflict surrounding Twitch streamers who are sexually suggestive arises again and again.
Some Twitch viewers accuse women of dressing “sexually suggestive” to gain viewers. They also say they want to get these streamers off “Twitch”. They allegedly achieve this through sheer numbers of reports.
However, Twitch has stated in the past that the number of reports does not matter for a ban, but rather that each case is examined individually.
