With Wayfinder, the developers aimed to create a worthy successor to the popular MMORPG WildStar, even though the title ultimately became more of a co-op game than an MMORPG. Now you can try it for free.
What kind of game is this? Wayfinder is an ARPG that you can play together with 2 other friends or even solo. As an ARPG with MMORPG elements, it focuses primarily on exciting battles, tough bosses, and progression systems that turn your character into a true hero.
In doing so, you will traverse different areas in an open world, defeat bosses, collect loot, and improve your character. For endless content, randomly generated dungeons provide variety, looking different each time and presenting different challenges.
Instead of classes, you have access to 8 different characters and weapons, each with unique stats and attributes that allow you to customize your character.

No longer an MMORPG
Why is the game no longer an MMORPG? WildStar remains one of the best games in the hearts of many MMORPG fans. With Wayfinder, they aimed to create a spiritual successor to the MMORPG, but after a promising launch, the game lost more and more players, before the developers decided to turn the MMORPG-lite into a co-op game with MMORPG elements.
So, when it comes to stats, housing, and customizing your own character, you can tell that this was originally intended to be an MMORPG. As a player, you can furnish your own house with over 300 items.
You can completely dye your armor in dozens of different colors, and there are various equipment sets that you can earn. Crossplay for you and your friends is also possible.
Why is Wayfinder the spiritual successor of WildStar? Not only does the graphic style of Wayfinder resemble WildStar. Even during development, fans described the then MMORPG as a good alternative to WildStar. The developers of WildStar felt the same way and spoke positively about the title on X.com.
In response to a post, the former creative producer of WildStar, Chad Moore, said back then: “This is the 2nd chance for the best MMO ever.” Thus, the ARPG offers just the mix of fantasy and sci-fi, as well as steampunk and martial arts elements that made the setting of WildStar so enjoyable.
What does the game cost? Initially, Wayfinder was supposed to be a free MMORPG, but the developers decided to stick with a Buy2Play model during the transition to a co-op game. Regularly, Wayfinder costs €24.50 on Steam.
Currently, however, the game is playable for free until January 29 at 7:00 PM, giving all interested parties the opportunity to check out the game for free. If you like what you see, Wayfinder is available with a 70% discount for €7.35 until February 2.
With Wayfinder, the developers have captured the spirit of WildStar and have tried their best to implement it. The fact that the game did not turn into a real MMORPG does not detract from the current version, as the inherited features benefit every ARPG. Another ARPG is taking more inspiration from Path of Exile 2 in its development: New ARPG mixes Path of Exile 2 with one of the most successful games on Steam, with only 2 developers.
