In EVE Online, data plays an essential role. Jokingly, it is often referred to as “Tables in space” – Now the developers are turning the meme into reality and collaborating with Microsoft.
At the EVE Fanfest in May 2022, the developers CCP announced that there could be a future partnership with Microsoft. Players should then be able to export their in-game data to Excel spreadsheets.
The Excel meme becomes reality
CCP aims to make it easier for players without programming knowledge to keep track of the data-driven wars. According to Creative Director Bergur Finnbogason, many players are already using external tools to collect their data.
This add-in is not meant to replace these fantastic, player-developed tools, but rather to provide an additional option for users, which requires less programming knowledge to get started.

What data is involved? It may involve general data or character-based information. For example, players track resource production, their account balance, or prices during trading. Having an overview is also beneficial in large wars. During “World War Bee 2”, ships worth 800,000 euros were destroyed.
Currently, they are looking for testers for the closed beta. At the end of the current posts on Steam, data enthusiasts among you can apply for it. Players will be selected to “reflect a broad range of capsuleers,” the developers explain.
There will also be multiple tests for which one can reapply. When the feature will come to the MMORPG is currently unclear.
Players’ opinions are divided
Under the post on the Steam page of EVE Online, some players have commented. Some think it’s great, others say it’s too late, while others wonder if they now have to buy Excel and why a free program isn’t used.
