Infinity Ward has announced that they will fix the notorious “Slide Cancel” glitch in CoD Modern Warfare. It is widely used by top players in the competitive scene.
What is the “Slide Cancel” glitch? “Slide Cancel” is a movement exploit. It allows players to interrupt the slide early by carefully pressing buttons.
This gives them the advantage of being able to draw and shoot their weapon faster without having to endure the short downtime at the end of the slide. It seems as though the opposing player is still sliding, but in reality, they are already shooting.
You can see what that looks like in the video:
What makes the glitch so annoying? Players who are not familiar with the glitch are at a disadvantage and may not even be able to see their opponent while being shot at.
“Secret” glitch gives pros an advantage
How did the glitch become known? The glitch was discovered by professional CoD players. Especially in the competitive realm, Slide Canceling is widely exploited. However, it is said that the exploit was kept relatively “secret” so that those who know about it can maintain an advantage.
Pro gamers like Matthew “FormaL” Piper, who plays for the Chicago Huntsmen, are quite annoyed by the glitch now.
Slide Cancel was already known in CoD: Black Ops 4 and led to the game’s meta adjusting to it. In CoD Modern Warfare, it joins other glitches and bugs, such as Wall Bangs or jams with some weapons.
Here in the clip, “FormaL” explains the exploit to Twitch streamer DrDisrespect. The clip is now “public”, says the pro. According to “FormaL”, only the Dallas Empire players knew this glitch for a while.
What did Infinity Ward say? In the new community update, which announces among other things a patch for upcoming 3v3 modes, Infinity Ward commented on the Slide Canceling.
The developer promised a fix for the glitch in one of the future updates. However, it did not specify when exactly players can expect it.
It is unclear if the developers will manage to fix the glitch before the start of the Call of Duty League in Minnesota, which begins on January 24.
