On October 18, 2022, not only was the popular life simulation “The Sims 4” made available for free on all platforms, but the “Behind The Sims Summit” streaming event also took place. There, EA presented an upcoming Sims game that is said to include some multiplayer elements.
What game is it? The upcoming Sims game is called “Project Rene.” An official title, such as “The Sims 5,” is currently not known. “Rene” is said to remind of words like “Renaissance” and “rebirth.”
What will the multiplayer aspects look like? As the American online magazine PCGamer.com reports, the building phase in Project Rene will pursue a social approach and include a kind of multiplayer element. This means you can share your builds or help your friends decorate and furnish a room.
In a blog post summarizing the information from the “Behind The Sims Summit” event, the developers additionally state: With Project Rene, players have the choice of whether they want to play alone or together with others, and they can play their game on all supported devices (via. ea.com).
Thus, Project Rene not only offers the possibility to play with other players but also to experience the title on multiple platforms. In the stream, we saw how a player was editing the setup of their room on a mobile device while it was simultaneously changing on the PC.
The first scenes that EA showed of Project Rene during the stream are embedded here:
How did the last attempt at a Sims multiplayer go? With The Sims Online, EA already made an initial attempt to establish a multiplayer for The Sims in 2002. Although it was playable worldwide, it never received a translation into German. Additionally, a subscription was required to play The Sims Online.
In 2007, The Sims Online was supposed to be rebranded as EA-Land, but by 2008, the developers decided to shut down the game (via. techcrunch.com)
