With the release of xDefiant, there is information about Ubisoft’s monetization plans. We will explain how these look.
What kind of game is this? The CoD-killer
xDefiant is a free shooter that will be released today, on May 21, 2024. After the release by Ubisoft has been postponed several times, it will now be available.
Besides the decision to forgo skill-based matchmaking
in xDefiant, Ubisoft also wants to avoid another thing: pay-to-win
.
Instead, there is a promise from Ubisoft regarding monetization and unlocking content.
Also unlockable through challenges
How can content be acquired? In addition to the option to unlock gameplay-related content with real money, this should also be possible completely without spending money. For this, challenges in the game must be completed, which will also unlock the content.
On the Ubisoft page, they write: There is no pay-to-win mechanic – all game-relevant content that can be purchased can also be unlocked through challenges to ensure a fair game within our community.
As an example, Ubisoft cites the faction DedSec
. In addition to the ability to purchase it for real money, it can also be unlocked in a challenge. For this, 700,000 experience points must be gathered.
Additionally, Ubisoft states that players will be rewarded not only for successful matches but also generally for their time. Therefore, in addition to daily and weekly challenges, there will also be a free battle pass and other opportunities to unlock content.
Personalization in Focus
xDefiant is also set to focus on personalization. Players will be able to customize skins for characters and weapons, as well as MVP animations, player cards, and emoji packs. In the future, there will also be more options for personalization.
