Spectre Divide should shake up the shooter market. The former CS:GO pro shroud wanted to “create the best game of all time.” The release on Steam and other platforms followed, but after 7 months, the developers had to cease support.
What is Spectre Divide? This is a tactical shooter developed by Mountaintop Studios in collaboration with the Twitch streamer shroud. In this game, 2 teams of 3 players each compete against each other.
While one team has to plant a bomb, the other team will need to defend the target locations against their attackers. The difference from the competition Valorant and CS:2 is primarily the feature of the Spectrer.
Each player has a doppelgänger, a sort of “second body,” which can be activated at the push of a button to execute tactical moves. Furthermore, in this shooter, you do not shoot from the hip, but rather work more with your sights to hit your opponents – there should be no loss in your precision during firefights.
shroud himself, a former CS:GO pro, wanted to create “the best game of all time” with this title, but now Mountaintop Studios announced the cessation of support and the closure of the studio.
“Did not achieve the desired success”
Why is support being discontinued? On Steam (via store.steampowered.com), there was an open letter for all Spectre fans from the developers of the tactical shooter. In it, the studio reported on the journey of development, as well as the successes achieved with Season 1. Unfortunately, they were not enough to keep the game running.
Initially, the team was optimistic when 400,000 players tried out the first season and up to 10,000 players were on all platforms during peak times. However, Mountaintop Studios clarifies that they have had to stretch their funding since the PC release to stay alive, but now must admit that nothing is left, and the revenue from Spectre is insufficient.
The developers have tried every step: looking for a publisher, considering investment, or even a takeover – it wasn’t enough. The studio must close, and Spectre is to be taken offline in the next 30 days.
Future purchases will be disabled, and payments made after the release of Season 1 will be refunded.
Has shroud commented on this? We have checked Twitch and his public accounts and have not found anything so far. shroud remains tight-lipped for now.
It remains to be seen whether the streamer will release a statement regarding the end of Spectre Divide, as he has also invested a lot of expertise in terms of gunplay into the game.
