Yes, there is actually a DOOM WOOD, which is even located in Germany. This is a nature conservation project for biodiversity and environmental protection. The gamescom is also committed to this – with the gamescom forest.
What kind of forest is that? The DOOM WOOD is a nature conservation project near Pegnitz in the Bayreuth district of Bavaria. And yes, it is indeed dedicated to the famous DOOM shooter series. The forest was created by Treemer, a support project for the reforestation of German forests.
Together with Bethesda, the DOOM WOOD project was launched for gamescom 2019. So far, over 30,000 trees have already been planted in the forest.
What is gamescom doing now? In the course of gamescom 2021, there is the gamescom forest, which starts another forest project very close to DOOM WOOD. This action already took place in 2020 and is now continuing.
Through the donation form, over 5,000 euros in donations have already been collected from gamers and companies. In the trailer for the forest, gamescom promotes itself with fictional games like “Plant Turismo”, “Leaf of Legends” and “Pinecraft.”

What are the actions good for? The gamescom forest aims to close gaps between the forests in Germany to create mixed forests. According to the management, these are better for the environment and species protection than monocultures.
This year’s goal is to reforest an area of over 15,000 square meters, after which a new area will be sought for afforestation.
Where can I donate? Both projects offer you the opportunity to donate. For the gamescom forest, donations starting at one euro are possible, while the DOOM WOOD sells fixed packages for 6.66 € per 2 m² or 26.10 € per 6.66 m².
