Rank 5: Dorne
- House: Martell
- Capital: Sunspear
Dorne is primarily known for being resilient. When Aegon I Targaryen gradually conquered all the kingdoms of Westeros, Dorne remained the only one that was independent. It was not until a century and a half later that Dorne was eventually peacefully integrated into the Seven Kingdoms through a marriage.
The greatest peculiarity of the region is its landscape. As the southernmost part of the continent, Dorne consists almost entirely of desert. The hot sun and the unforgiving sand can be deadlier for invading armies than a thousand swords. Therefore, often just a few Dornish warriors are enough to repel numerically superior attackers.
Shaped by the harsh desert climate, the people of Dorne are also very tough and unyielding. They are ready to fight to the end, no matter how much they have already lost. True to the Martell motto, “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.” This especially makes the Dornish warriors dangerous opponents.
At the same time, the Dornish army cannot compete with the military power of other regions once they move out of the shelter of their desert. The soldiers are only lightly armored, and there is practically no fleet available.
Surprisingly, however, the economy is quite strong, especially due to exotic goods like spices. Therefore, Dorne lands solidly in the middle at rank 5 of the strongest regions of Westeros.
