South of King’s Landing lie the Stormlands. As the name suggests, the region is known for its fierce storms. The harsh weather, combined with the long mountain range to the south, provides good defense against potential attackers. The coasts are dotted with sharp rocks that can quickly become a disaster for attacking ships.
Just like the weather, the people are also rough and stormy. Although their army consists of only about 30,000 soldiers, they fight all the harder. Due to the military culture, there are no cities but larger castles. This is obviously very practical in war.
At the same time, the lack of large cities where trade could take place is a drawback. The economic situation is therefore not optimal. This may be why they also lack the resources to maintain a larger army.
