To boost sales of the single-player game “The Park,” which is based on the world of “The Secret World,” rewards in the Secret World were promised to buyers of “The Park.” No one seems to mind the cosmetic items, the Killer Chipmunk Costume. However, the “10.9” items that buyers receive are perceived as “too strong.”
Small Reward – Big Impact
Two and a half weeks ago, there was a thread in the forum “It is official, we are now Pay2Win,” a user writes. The gear has been leaked and is too strong. By now, the thread has 175 comments and initial concerns seem to be confirmed in practice: Some now have the equipment and it seems to be really very strong. There are three necklaces, three talismans, one each for DD, tank, and healer.
The thread is hotly debated. Opponents explain why the items are so strong, better in their slots than anything else available. One would design their own “builds” just for these items.
Others say: One should keep things in perspective. It still comes down to other things than just a small item. One or the other necklace will surely be nerfed soon (the healer necklace has indeed already been hotfixed) – besides, “The Park” is a great game and one should buy it without hesitation.
Funcom Needs Money, but is Such a “Purchase Incentive” Still Legitimate?
Regardless of what impact these items actually have on the Secret World, many seem to dislike the “principle,” the trend behind these items, following the motto “Just because Funcom needs money and wants to sell a game, they don’t have to resort to such methods.”
