There have been plenty of negative side effects surrounding the MMORPG The Secret World in recent months. The operator Funcom has come under scrutiny from Norwegian authorities. It seems to be about issues with what might be a somewhat creative accounting.
The MMORPG The Secret World has never been under a good star from the beginning. After a failed launch, employees had to be regularly laid off. But even though the company has hit some bumps, the content machine is still humming, and the creative team seems determined not to be impressed by the circumstances. In a regularly published post, head developer Romain Amiel gives insight into what players can expect in The Secret World in the future.
There are plans for content issues #9 and #10. Especially fans of Asia can look forward to this: It’s going to Tokyo. The content patches are set to be released soon and in quick succession: To reduce waiting times, they have been developed in parallel.
Romain Amiel mentioned in the developers’ letter that issue #9 is nearing completion. Players should start brushing up on their Japanese skills. In typical “Secret-World” fashion, he managed to let slip an important hint. The key to solving the issue of -censored- lies clearly in the -censored-. Humor has apparently not abandoned the employees at Funcom despite all the difficulties surrounding the company. The voice actor recordings for #9 are definitely close to being finished, and planning is going well.
In the content patches #9 and #10, it will be about the effects of the Filth on humanity and how it continues to develop. The Filth, the pollution, is that mysterious plague that has affected many inhabitants of the Secret World. In issue #10, further corners of Tokyo will open up. Since The Secret World is currently only rated for adults, interested players will also enjoy a detour to a seedy love hotel.
To bridge the wait for #9, the final phase of The Whispering Tide – The Whispering Flood is currently live. Up to 40 players can take on the Filth Guardian, the polluted guardian … maybe it should be noted here that Funcom would do well not to skimp on localization.
