Anyone who has purchased a key for “The Secret World” from a more or less dubious site in recent weeks and redeemed it on Steam will now be disappointed. Funcom has closed numerous accounts.
The developers will never see their money
While not all sellers of game access are criminals, and most have been authorized by Funcom, there are some who obtain their goods through unscrupulous methods. The unwitting players often purchase from such sites in search of the lowest price. This ultimately leads to the developers never seeing a portion of the revenue, causing significant damage.
Players with affected accounts are encouraged to request a refund from the respective sellers and then acquire a new key through legitimate means. The banned accounts can be unlocked by entering a legal key.
