The survival MMO Rust has gained significant popularity in recent weeks. The reason for this was a server full of well-known streamers who helped the game achieve a new upswing. This server is now dead, but the operator is launching not one, but two new – and better, as many think.
What kind of server is this? On the OfflineTV server, dozens of famous streamers helped Rust reach a top spot on Twitch. The project quickly gained great popularity among viewers, thanks in part to big names like Pokimane or Valkyrae (thumbnail).
On the server itself, the streamers played with and against each other with a large portion of chaos, especially since Twitch rager xQc got involved. He quickly caused raids, attacks, and PvP with a whole crew.
The originally peaceful server thus became a battlefield time and again. Eventually, even the “Sheriff” shroud intervened to put an end to the evil xQc.
However, on January 5, the server was shut down again.
Why is it dead? The operator of the server took it offline so that the new update from January 7, 2021, along with force wipe can be applied without issues. However, it will return, just in a slightly altered form and with another server for support.
New server makes everything even better
This is the new server: With the new update, a new server from OfflineTV will launch and will be available from January 8 at 2:00 AM German time. It will focus more on roleplay and offer less space for PvP and griefing.
The streamer shroud describes the server in such a way that more roleplaying should take place in the south. Here, players should not be looted when they die. In the north, however, “Kill On Sight” will apply. Anyone who stays there will consciously decide for PvP and will be released for elimination (via Dexerto).
On the server, the rules should be enforced more strictly. Additionally, at least initially, it will offer a lower capacity, so fewer players and streamers can play there.
What happens to the old one? The “old” server will then go live again in addition to the new one. Everything is supposed to remain the same there. The two servers will be distinguished by their names: “The Badlands” and “The Divide” (the new server).
The original server had some problems towards the end, curiously due to its viewers. Without actually playing themselves, the streamers’ viewers spoiled the game. How the new servers will deal with this remains to be seen.
Can I join? In principle, yes, but currently the operator is only accepting applications from players who know someone who is already allowed to play on the server. So it’s rather unlikely that you’ll be able to play there directly.
The whole project helped Rust achieve its highest number of players on Steam ever and the survival MMO has continued to grow since then. Thousands of players are starting Rust again or starting for the first time. Consequently, the rush for the servers is significant.
However, Rust can be quite tough for newcomers, the environment is harsh, and the game doesn’t forgive many mistakes. If you belong to the newcomers, you can find in our special on MeinMMO tips for getting started in Rust and mistakes you should definitely avoid.
