The GeForce RTX 5070 from Nvidia will be available for purchase on March 6, 2025, but the first tests are only lukewarm. Players are also rather unimpressed. Read on to find out what this is about and why many are now hoping for an AMD graphics card.

The problem is that Nvidia initially advertised with images suggesting that the new RTX 5070 would be on par with the previous RTX 4090 – at least when using DLSS 4.0. However, many testers now say that this is not true: the RTX 5070 is at the level of an RTX 4070 without achieving the performance of the Super model.
Lukewarm enthusiasm from testers and players
The English-language magazine PCGamer states that it is uncertain whether anyone could genuinely recommend the RTX 5070 at such a high price. The RTX 5070 seems more like an RTX 5060, just at a far too high price. The editor at PCGamer makes it clear:
At this price point and considering the fierce competition, I don’t know how I can recommend the RTX 5070 as a genuine purchase for any PC gamer without significant reservations.
The German-language magazine Computerbase is somewhat more positive, stating that it is more of “an RTX 4070 Super with DLSS 4 MFG”:
- The RTX 5070 is only 3 to 4 percent faster than the RTX 4070 Super.
- With ray tracing enabled, the RTX 5070 is even below the RTX 4070 Super.
Additionally, there is criticism that the 12 GB of video memory (VRAM) is simply outdated. Especially with many new features that all require video memory, this will become tight in the long run.
The biggest strength of the RTX 5070, however, is the improved version of DLSS 4.0: both “Ray Reconstruction” and “Super Resolution” work very well, and this is where the graphics card showcases its strengths.
Many are now hoping for AMD’s new RX 9070 XT
This is the hope: Testers and players are surprisingly in agreement that Nvidia’s weak release could be a huge opportunity for competitor AMD. Nvidia simply cannot manage to bring enough graphics cards to market to keep prices relatively stable: none of the new RTX 5000 models are truly available, and AMD’s new RX 9070 XT costs 150 euros less than the RTX 5070. Above all, the prices of the RX 9070 and XT have excited players.
For many, this could mean a double opportunity for “Team Red”: on one hand, to release a very good graphics card to the market and on the other, to offer it at a fair price. Both things Nvidia has not managed with its RTX 5070.
What could be problems? It is still unclear how strong the performance of the RX 9070 (XT) really is, as the tests will only be published throughout the day. We will update our article as soon as new information becomes available.
Furthermore, it is just as uncertain with AMD whether there will be enough stock to satisfactorily meet a potentially high demand. This was already evident with the Ryzen 7 9800x3D, where AMD struggled to keep up with demand.
In the best case, the RX 9070 XT will be readily available; in the worst case, there will be the same problems as with the RTX 5000 series: low stock and high prices for the few available units.
