Microsoft has launched the beta registration for the online RPG Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO 2) in the USA. The game will first be released for Xbox One – but only in the USA.
What did Microsoft announce? Players from the USA and Canada can now register for the closed beta of the MMORPG Phantasy Star Online. This is set to start in early 2020.
A beta is coming – but not for us
For which platforms can you register? Phantasy Star Online 2 will initially launch for Xbox One, and accordingly, the beta will also be for this console.
When will the title be released for PC? The PC release is planned for later in 2020. The Xbox One version is due to arrive in spring 2020.
Can anyone participate in the beta? No. Only players from the USA and Canada are allowed. Players from other regions cannot participate.
You can try to register on pso2.com with a US Xbox Live account, whether you will be accepted is another question.
What about the release in Europe? Microsoft has not yet commented on this. Phantasy Star Online 2 has only been officially announced for the USA and Canada.
What does the beta launch mean for us? Even if PSO 2 has not yet been announced for us, the release is approaching – even in Europe. It can be assumed that the MMORPG will also be released here, as the official website states that the debut takes place in the USA. This basically means that other countries will follow. So you can already look forward to PSO 2.
An MMORPG to keep an eye on
What kind of game is PSO 2? The MMORPG was released in July 2012 in Japan. It is a classic online role-playing game that focuses on quests, battles, and a story. The announcement of a western release came as a surprise at E3.
However, PSO 2 does not take place in a fantasy world, but in a science fiction scenario. You visit multiple worlds that you explore. Quests take place in instances for four players. You fight against monsters, improve your hero, and advance the story.
These highlights are offered by Phantasy Star Online 2:
- You can create your character from the races Humans, Newman (biologically engineered elves), CAST (androids), and Deuman (a type of mutant)
- Classes available to you include Hunter, Ranger, Force, Braver, Bouncer, Challenger, Fighter, Gunner, and Techer
- It is even possible to change your class
- In the action-packed battles, you must not only attack actively but also keep moving and use combos, as well as switch quickly between three equipped weapons
- Quests are the main focus
- The pet system is another highlight, as you can improve your pets, enabling them to actively support you in missions.
- PvP is also possible and takes place in arenas
