With The Wagadu Chronicles, a new MMORPG has been announced, aiming to impress with its interesting role-playing concept and unusual scenario. And it is actually receiving quite a positive response.
What kind of game is Wagadu Chronicles? The role-playing game from the German developer studio Twin Drums immerses you in a fantasy world based on African legends. It is referred to as an Afrofantasy MMORPG.
However, it is not only the setting that offers a profound lore. There are more exciting aspects that are supposed to set Wagadu Chronicles apart from other MMORPGs.
- You are not restricted to a single role but can adapt it at any time
- You do not choose a race, but your story, which defines you
- You develop your hero through skills that are not only combat-focused
- There are even temporary abilities that you discover while exploring the world and can use for a short time
The focus of Wagadu Chronicles is supposed to be on the role-playing element. It is not about grinding as much as possible. Instead, you are meant to immerse yourself in your character. Role-playing is rewarded. The dialogues between players are also intended to reflect this.
How is this concept being received? On reddit, discussions about The Wagadu Chronicles are already underway. It appears that the idea of the game is indeed well-received – which is also evident from the success of the Kickstarter campaign. We summarize some of the opinions for you:
- mishka__ says: “It is an interesting world concept. However, I think the team’s statement that it is the first online game developed for role players is an overstatement. There have been many games with a role-playing focus in the past 25 years.”
- Astrum91 expresses interest but is also a bit skeptical: “I was interested until I saw that the game is being funded through Kickstarter. MMOs just take an extremely long time and a lot of money to develop. I believe that the genre is not suitable for Kickstarter funding.”
- lopfie feels reminded of Guild Wars: “Fantastic! This gives me a feeling like Guild Wars Nightfall.”
- ByteStyx writes: “This is quite an interesting project!”
- TGWolf is enthusiastic: “This is such a cool idea. It looks interesting and original.”
- Hopeann, on the other hand, has little hope: “10 bucks that we won’t even see half of what they promise.”
This is how the MMORPG is financed: The Wagadu Chronicles is currently being financed through a Kickstarter campaign and is even supported by Riot Games. If you want to contribute to the financing, you can do so until October 30th. Currently, more than 65,000 euros have been raised.
The funding goal is set at 100,000 euros. Based on the current progress, the developers should be able to reach this goal by the end of October.
What do you think of the MMORPG? Do you like the concept and setting?
The success of The Wagadu Chronicles is reminiscent of Titan Reach. This VR game managed to raise nearly $50,000 in the first 16 hours.
