Destiny 2 is currently celebrating its Halloween Event 2022. However, instead of fresh gameplay, the free event only brought a long list of bizarre bugs into the game. This ruined the experience for many Guardians and also hindered their progress. The only thing that worked perfectly was the event monetization.
It could have been a grand Halloween Event for everyone in Destiny 2. After a period of calm in Season 18 among the Guardians, the spooky and free event was supposed to bring fresh air and new tasks into the game.
Instead, the list of errors grew longer and the faces of the Guardians also became disheartened due to the weak event highlights.
- Bungie somewhat recycled the Haunted Sectors in 2022. Only a new sector was minimally integrated in the European Dead Zone.
- There is a new weapon; however, it is handed to you on a silver platter immediately after completing the quest with a great perk combo for PvP. Thus, the hunt for many Guardians for a good roll was essentially over from the start.
- Fresh air in 2022 is actually only found in the event pass which one has to purchase additionally to obtain the new cosmetic items.
Many Guardians felt that the trailer was the coolest thing about the event so far:
Guardians who still dove into the event to have at least some fun were immediately thwarted in their efforts by some nasty bugs.
- The Spectral Pages earned for the Halloween event and progress simply disappeared from the Guardians’ inventory. They were irretrievably lost – conversion into Manifested Spectral Pages was no longer possible.
- The bosses in the Haunted Sectors have their own agenda in 2022. They make Guardians wait up to a minute before appearing. This unnecessarily prolongs the activity.
- Anyone who thought, due to the initial difficulties, “Okay, then I’ll just farm Shards!” was also out of luck. Another bug meant that players currently only receive 100 instead of 200 Shards for the weekly bounties from Eva.
Moreover, there were problems with Update 6.2.5: In addition to the event content, Bungie also launched a new, comprehensive update with hotfix 6.2.5 on Tuesday. Not everything went smoothly here either.
- The removal of the 20% bonus on aim assist falloff for the perk “Mess seeker” was not imported into Update 6.2.5 and had to be removed from the patch notes. The change will be added in a future update.
- The exotic shotgun “Lord of Wolves” had to be disabled after Update 6.2.5 due to a problem because it could deal more damage than intended.
Many Guardians immediately recalled the dominant times of the Exo weapon from 2019 with the new bug of “Lord of Wolves” because they could once again wipe everything out in 2022 that was not hidden.
The “Bug Festival of the Lost” 2022 is scarier than ever
Bungie is working hard on solutions: That same evening, the Bungie Support Twitter account was busy. The developer quickly announced fixes. For instance, they fixed the bug with the Spectral Pages within hours and also announced reimbursements for the Shard bug.
By that time, however, the damage was already done.
Instead of fresh air, familiar lethargy prevails: In Destiny 2, there always comes a point in a season when you have accomplished everything and especially completed the story. So it is cool when events still bring some variety into the game during these times and the Guardians come together again.
However, the few new voice lines from the Season 18 relevant NPCs Eido and the Drifter are too few for the Halloween event to feel fresh. Also, the “Pirate Stories” of the lore compendium “Tales of the Forgotten – Volume 2” have thus far remained quite meager in content.
Additionally, for many, the disappointing fact is that the normal and familiar playlist activities as well as public events for progress and obtaining the Spectral Pages at the Festival of the Lost are once again more rewarding than the Haunted Sectors.
As a result, the Guardians hardly break out of their usual routine in Destiny 2 and wished for the once frightening Forest to return. There, it was at least still a challenge to continuously beat your own time. So the player jazzinyourfacepsn writes on reddit: “I wish the Scary Forest would return.”
