Sony has finally presented the new PlayStation 5 with price and date. Whether the console fits well in your living room can be found out here.
This is how big the PS5 is: On Wednesday evening, the PS5 was officially presented along with some games with price and release date. Shortly thereafter, pre-orders started, which were chaotic.
Also, the other features of the PS5 as well as the dimensions of the console are now known. In the PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed what dimensions you can expect:
- PS5 with disc drive: Approx. 390 mm x 104 mm x 260 mm
- PS5 Digital Edition: Approx. 390 mm x 92 mm x 260 mm
Thus, the Digital Edition is nearly the same as the disc PS5 but is slightly slimmer due to the lack of a disc slot. The stand is not included in the dimensions for both consoles. So, if you plan to place the console upright, you need to account for a few more millimeters.
The PS5 with disc drive weighs 4.5 kilograms, while the Digital Edition is slightly lighter at 3.9 kg. But how do the consoles compare to the competition?
The PS5 is taller than the Xbox Series X when standing
This is what the comparison looks like: The PS5 is the largest next-gen console you can get in terms of its dimensions.
- The Xbox Series X has dimensions of 301 mm x 151 mm x 151 mm
- The Xbox Series comes with 275 mm x 151 mm x 63.5 mm
The site “Kotaku” has created a scaled graphic showing the consoles in direct comparison.

While the Xbox Series X is wider due to its block form, the PS5 is significantly taller when the consoles are used standing up. When lying down, the PS5 is wider than the Xbox Series X but is then slimmer in height. The small Xbox Series S is overall significantly more space-saving than the other next-gen consoles.
In terms of weight, the PS5 also has the highest values. The Xbox Series X is slightly lighter at 4.45 kg compared to the PS5 (4.5 kg). The Series S, at 1.93 kg, is the noticeably lightest console.
Compared to the PS4, the PS5 is therefore also significantly larger. This is shown in another graphic from “Kotaku”:

So, if you have previously stored your PS4 space-saving and snugly on a shelf or living room wall, you will need to create a bit more space for the new console. If you want to test whether the PS5 fits in your living room, you can use this AR app – it is still based on estimated values, not the new official dimensions.
