Sony has announced a new beta update for the PS5. Finally, it includes support for 1440p (WQHD). This is a popular resolution among gamers that many had requested for the PS5.
Sony regularly introduces new features and functionalities for the PS5. The latest beta update finally adds WQHD support.
While the Xbox Series X supports all common resolutions like Full HD, WQHD, 4K, and 8K, Sony has lagged behind with its PS5. Until now, the PS5 has only been able to support Full HD, 4K, and 8K.
However, this will change with the upcoming update for the PS5. Sony has not only introduced some features but also WQHD resolution, which will be available with the latest update for the PS5 (via blog.playstation.de)
WQHD has become one of the most popular resolutions for gaming monitors. This is reported by GameStar in a survey about monitors. That’s why many gamers had specifically requested this from Sony for the PS5.
WQHD support fills an important gap for gaming monitors
What is WQHD? WQHD is the term for a specific display resolution and stands for “Wide Quad High Definition”. WQHD lies between Full HD and 4K and offers significantly more pixels than Full HD. More pixels also mean greater strain on the processor and graphics card.
Especially for many users who bought a new gaming monitor for their gaming setup and were already using WQHD and also own a PS5, this is likely a reason for joy. Because in the future, you can use the native resolution of your monitor and don’t have to use the smaller Full HD.
Why should one even use WQHD? 1440p looks significantly sharper and better resolved to the human eye, and the reason behind this is simple. A WQHD monitor, with its resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, offers 78% more pixels than Full HD with its 1920 x 1080 pixels.
If you currently have your PS5 connected to a WQHD monitor and are using the Full HD resolution, then you should definitely increase the resolution with the update. You will benefit tremendously without any cost to you.
