This is what makes the Prospector special: Since Season 6, some videos have appeared on YouTube showing the Prospector in action. It is referred to as the “new DPS King” or the “weapon with the highest DPS values.”
In fact, the Prospector is an exotic grenade launcher that has been in the game since the launch of Destiny 2. Back then, it caught attention with its particularly elegant design. It also dealt decent damage, however, grenade launchers had a poor standing in the meta and there were better alternatives in the power slot.
The Prospector is a power weapon that deals Arc damage. Here are the perks:
- Excavation: Hold down the fire button to launch grenades. Release to ignite all live grenades simultaneously. The grenades stick to surfaces and set enemies on fire when they explode.
- Fully Automatic Trigger System: If you hold down the trigger, the weapon will fire automatically.
This is why the Prospector is so powerful now: With Season 6, grenade launchers were buffed. They received more ammo reserves and +25% damage in PvE. The Prospector benefits from this PvE damage boost, dealing a tremendous amount of damage quickly due to its high fire rate, thus becoming a DPS monster.
The Prospector against all Strike bosses
There are now videos on YouTube in which the Prospector eliminates tough bosses in no time. Reportedly, this exotic is now more effective against Riven than the cluster bomb rocket launchers at their prime, as you can see in this short video that lasts only 28 seconds:

Note: To enable the Prospector to kill as quickly as in the videos, you should activate some buffs, such as the Well of Glory.
Location of the Prospector: The exotic can be obtained as a random drop. Sometimes, Xur has it available. Most Destiny 2 veterans should already have it in their exotic collection.
