On November 17, the Pre-Season 12 of League of Legends started and it brought some changes. One of them revolves around a new comeback mechanic for teams that are behind.
What’s included in Patch 11.23? The new Patch 11.23, which also launched Pre-Season 12, brought some changes, including:
- 2 new Dragons – Hextech and Chemtech
- New Items
- New Runes
- The new Challenge System
Moreover, the Target Bounties were introduced as a new mechanic. They are particularly interesting because they aim to give teams that are behind the chance to catch up. We’ll explain what the Target Bounties are and how they work.
Everything about Pre-Season 12 can be found summarized in this video:
Target Bounties to Assist Comebacks
What exactly is this mechanic? For some time now, there have been Champion Bounties in LoL, which ensure that a player who is particularly strong gives more gold when defeated. However, this gold only goes to a player from the opposing team.
The new Target Bounties, on the other hand, grant bonus gold to all players of the losing team when a certain objective is completed.
These objectives appear 15 seconds after a team has fallen far enough behind in gold, and they end when a team has caught up close enough in gold or the objective has been completed.
However, the opponents can also see the Bounties. Even if they will not benefit from the gold themselves, they can prevent the enemy team from reaching the bounty.
What exactly do the bounties provide?
- Baron Nashor: 500 to 800 Gold
- Dragons and Elder Dragons: 500 to 800 Gold
- Herald: 500 to 800 Gold
- Outer Turret: 250 to 400 Gold
- Inner Turret: 400 to 640 Gold
- Inhibitor Turret: 400 to 640 Gold
The amount of gold depends on the distance to the opposing team and is evenly distributed among the 5 players, even if they were not involved in the action.
Will this mechanic completely stop the snowball effect? Riot has been working for years to give teams a chance for comebacks without overly restricting the winning team. You can see that again here.
Because even in the introduction of the mechanic, the developers explain: “Moreover, we don’t want to diminish the impact of skillful play. If you dominate your lane and gain an insurmountable lead, that shouldn’t be nullified.”
So, if someone dominates a game, they probably won’t lose it due to the bounties. However, in closer matches, it might be possible to turn a match around with the extra gold.
What do you think of the new feature? Is it interesting for you or do you believe that the bounties will have little influence on the gameplay?
A lot is happening in this Pre-Season 12 of LoL. Besides the gameplay changes, there are also many roster changes among teams. Fnatic, in particular, is rebuilding completely:
