The streamer and content creator “MaceZayuri” aka “Mau” (26) is temporarily stepping back from Twitch to focus on her health. In an emotional farewell stream, she addresses her fans and talks about issues with the streaming platform.
Who is that?
- Mau has been on Twitch since 2016 and has 115,000 followers there
- She achieved initial recognition mainly through cosplays, but also enjoyed showcasing shooters like PUBG
- Besides Twitch, Mau is also active on many other platforms
- Now she is stepping back from Twitch, but saying goodbye is not easy for her
Mau no longer enjoys streaming
On August 29, Mau addressed her fans with her “temporary last” stream. Clearly emotional, she announced that there would be no more streams from her for the time being.
This is why Mau is quitting: Mau apparently no longer enjoys streaming. While she used to countdown eagerly until her stream started, now she sits in front of the PC with stomach aches.
She feels forced to stream. She shouldn’t have to do that, as she is no longer financially dependent on Twitch. However, she feels obligated: as soon as she puts streaming aside to focus on other things, she feels a sense of guilt.
The viewers would also notice that the motivation is lacking. Mau feels like she is disappointing everyone, including herself. But the decision is not easy for her: after all, she defines herself through Twitch and has spent six years on the platform.
You can watch the entire farewell stream on Mau’s Twitch channel.
These effects Twitch has on Mau: The streamer suffers from the pressure to always pay attention to numbers. She compares herself with others, feeling she can no longer appreciate others. She does not want to be that envious person.
However, Mau’s ego does not allow her to ignore the numbers. And even if she did, there would still be cooperation partners who want to be kept informed about the current statistics.
Her mental and physical health suffers from this: Mau has various diagnoses that have never been fully established. She should actually schedule doctor appointments, but she neither has the time nor the mental capacity for it.
Relief for the fans: Mau will partially remain with them
This is how things will continue for the streamer: Mau explicitly states that she does not want to completely withdraw from the public eye. However, she wants to focus more on the things that truly bring her joy. Currently, that includes photography and modeling.
There will also be streams again after a one-month break. However, these will mainly consist of cooking streams. Mau herself lives vegan and has food intolerances.
She would like to show recipes and educate and inform about foods.
Whether the “normal” streams for games or in the “Just Chatting” category will return at some point, Mau does not want to promise yet.
Mau plans to continue operating her accounts on TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, and Patreon. She can also imagine becoming more active on YouTube again.
Mental strain becomes a problem on Twitch
These are the problems: Recently, there has been more discussion about the mental health of content creators in connection with Twitch. Streaming can invite some to self-exploitation, as there is a feeling of always needing to be live, always present:
Others struggle to cope with the success and the rising expectations of viewers. The American Twitch streamer jorbs even stated that he developed anxiety and literal panic attacks.
Even one of the most successful streamers, Pokimane, recently announced a break to recuperate mentally.
