On the weekend, the big GO Tour 2025 took place in Pokémon GO. Despite some content, the event did not go down well with MeinMMO author Paul Kutzner.
On March 1st and 2nd, 2025, it was that time again: the GO Tour 2025 was the first major event of the year in Pokémon GO. This is, alongside the GO Fest and the GO Nature Zone, one of the three major events taking place in the game. While the GO Nature Zone took place for the first time last year, the other two events have been around for years.
Despite some content and even the introduction of new fusions with corresponding new adventure effects, there were some points that dampened my enjoyment of the event.
Many Raids, Little Fusion Energy
Fusion energy for Kyurem: With the event, the fusion for Kyurem was unlocked. Raids had to be completed to obtain the necessary fusion energy to perform the fusion.
However, the number of raids required here was quite high. Between 80 – 150 fusion energy could be obtained per raid, of which 1,000 were needed to perform a fusion. Even with the previously published promo codes, which provided some energy, several raids had to be completed.
This, combined with the fact that there were no separate free raid passes for the event, meant that I quickly lost interest in completing the required number of raids.
In my opinion, this is done better on raid days. Trainers receive appropriate free raid passes, which likely increases the motivation of many trainers to participate in raids.
Pokémon in the Wild and Smoke: During the GO Tour 2025, there were again the hourly changing habitats that one is used to from such events. However, the Pokémon in these habitats were unfortunately quite uninteresting for me personally.
Of course, this is also due to the fact that I have been playing Pokémon GO since 2016, with interruptions, and thus possess several examples of strong monsters in my team. It would have benefited the event to have brought in some more monsters with strong evolutions. This would have provided me with additional motivation.
Trainers who focus more on collecting the various monsters could at least hunt for new costumed Pikachu and regional monsters during the event. However, since I have already collected the regional monsters in the past and costumed Pikachu do not hold much value for me, there was nothing here I wanted to collect.
Players who have not spent much time in the game yet and have not been around for long can of course benefit more from this and still snag one or two strong or rare monsters that are still missing from their collection.
The use of smoke also only produced Incognito, along with the costumed Pikachu variants, unfortunately.
Shiny Pokémon: Speaking of Pokémon in the wild: the chance to obtain some monsters in their shiny forms was not particularly high during the event.
While this is still an argument for turning another round in other events, such as Community Days, this unfortunately fell flat during the GO Tour 2025.
All in all, the event unfortunately did not score well with me personally. This may be different for players who have spent less time in the game so far. And that’s perfectly fine. After all, it’s not easy to cater to every single trainer in an event and make everyone happy.
