The phone gets hot while playing, what to do? If you have ever wondered about this, then check out our guide. We present you with half a dozen tips on what you can do against high temperatures on your phone.
For smartphones, there are exciting games for your phone, such as Diablo Immortal or Genshin Impact. However, if you play on your phone, you will notice that your device will eventually get hot. So, what can you do against high temperatures?
MeinMMO presents you with a handful of tips that you should consider when you want to play on your phone for a longer time.
Reduce the display brightness
High brightness not only drains a lot of battery but also increases temperatures. If you are primarily indoors and playing on the couch or in your bed, lower the brightness.
Also, turn off adaptive brightness. The sensor behind it consumes energy and keeps your phone warm over time.
By lowering the brightness, you not only reduce the temperature of your phone but also decrease power consumption. More tips on how you can save energy can be found here:

Don’t play in direct sunlight
Your phone does not like direct sunlight or high outdoor temperatures. If you sit outside in the sun and play, you expose your phone to high temperatures. The phone may not process those additional temperatures well.
If you really want to play outside, sit in the shade or at a cool place. Your phone will appreciate it.
Don’t play while your phone is charging
When you charge your phone, it and the battery get warm. This is normal and can’t be avoided. Manufacturers often point out in the device manual that heat is generated while charging.
If you play at the same time, you cause high temperatures in your device. Therefore, you should definitely avoid playing and charging your phone at the same time.
Instead, use the time when your phone is charging for meaningful activities and give the phone time to charge.
Take the phone out of its case
Basically, a case or cover should protect your device from external damage like scratches. If your phone slips out of your pocket or you are not careful, such a case can save a lot of money.
However, during active gaming, such a case is only partially helpful. Many cases are made of thick plastic, leather, or other thick materials. While optimal for protecting your hardware, these are only partially suitable for “breathing” or active heat exchange.
Some cases are designed in a way that they neither allow fresh air to your phone nor let warm air escape. The cases trap the heat and block ventilation. Without adequate ventilation, the phone heats up quickly.
Uninstall apps that supposedly cool your phone
There are plenty of apps for both Android and iOS that promise cooling for your phone. They look appealing and promise a lot but are never useful. Instead, such “cooling” apps steal your personal data.
Therefore, it’s best to uninstall such apps and stay away from them. Additionally, such programs mainly disable apps in the background, which is not advisable and burdens your device more than it helps:
Change the graphics settings in your game
If you are playing on your phone and feel your fingers burning, you can also lower the graphics settings on your phone. Many mobile games offer settings just like PC games.
While you may lose some quality and the game may not look as pretty, you gain some performance and, in the best case, lower temperatures. Additionally, you can also lower the brightness as explained above. While it won’t improve your gaming skills, your phone will appreciate it.
Give your phone a break
If your phone is exposed to high loads continuously, it is not necessarily healthy for your smartphone in the long term.
The longer you play on your phone without taking a break, the hotter the device gets. Therefore, take breaks now and then so that your smartphone can cool down a bit. Use the time to eat, drink, or enjoy an ice cream on a warm day. This way, you give both your phone and yourself a few pleasant minutes of relaxation.
