MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus bought a gaming laptop for a proud €1,500 to be able to play Diablo 4 on the Deutsche Bahn. It worked quite well. Now his device is on sale during Prime Day.
What kind of laptop is it? The Katana 15 is the budget version of MSI’s gaming series, but it still comes with quite strong hardware:
- Display: 15.6 inches (1920×1080)
- Processor: Intel i7 with 10 cores and 4.7 GHz
- Graphics card: GeForce RTX 4070 8 GB
- RAM: 16 GB DDR5
- Storage: 512 GB SSD + one additional slot for an M.2
- Operating system: Windows 11 Home
- Weight and dimensions: 3.6 kg at 48.6 x 32.1 x 9.2 cm
- LAN, WLAN, 2x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0, integrated webcam, illuminated RGB gaming keyboard (important!)
The laptop meets the technical minimum requirements for Diablo 4 without any problems required for Diablo 4. I tested it with this game, and Diablo will be the main game for this laptop for a while.
This is how well Diablo 4 works on the go: I bought the laptop in May to be able to play Diablo 4 on the Deutsche Bahn. Yes, no joke, and it even ran surprisingly well. Apart from the poor network coverage on the route, I had no problems at all.
The game runs smoothly and looks excellent on the device. I had no stuttering, the connection was surprisingly stable, and I was able to game well even with a small mouse for on the go.
Now the laptop is on sale for a short time during Amazon Prime Day. After comparing various prices, this is even the best deal I could find for this device.
I played for several hours on the train, and it mostly went very well. However, there were a few bad moments:
MSI Katana 15 at Amazon at the best price
I bought my laptop back then at Alternate for €1,499, but as a version without an operating system. Everything else is identical. It is still available at Alternate, even discounted. Still, the Katana 15 is currently available at the best price on Amazon for Prime Day:
- The MSRP for the Katana 15 is €1,799 with an operating system and €1,699 without an operating system
- The Katana 15 costs without an operating system at Alternate €1,399
- Windows 11 Home costs there another €114.90
- On offer at Amazon, you can currently get the Katana 15 with Windows 11 for €1,449
For me, the Katana has definitely been a good purchase that I have not regretted so far – unlike the gaming tablet for Diablo Immortal, which has been collecting dust in the corner since then. Whenever I am on the train, I now game, depending on the connection, either Diablo or Age of Wonders 4.
If your summer plans look similar to mine, the Katana 15 is actually a pretty good deal. I plan to spend Season 1 on the balcony of a good friend, to enjoy a little LAN feeling in Sanctuary. So I don’t have to carry my huge tower around, the laptop is ideal. By the way, the season starts soon:
