The Overwatch League apparently wants to attract new viewers with some partnerships and collaborations. Well-known tools that streamers use on Twitch as well as special offers are apparently under discussion.
What measures are being discussed? According to information from Dexerto , the Overwatch League plans to collaborate with well-known streaming tools like StreamLabs and Stream Elements to strengthen the league on Twitch.
Selected streamers are supposed to help with special offers. It is being discussed that the streamers will receive special and tailored overlays for their streams.
In these, live broadcasts of the league should appear better, and offers like ticket sales or announcements of upcoming events should be integrated.
Which streamers are supposed to help? Streamers are being discussed who meet special requirements, such as:
- former Overwatch players with viewers already interested in the game
- be “brand safe”, meaning remaining true to the Overwatch brand
- preferably US streamers who can also participate in live events
When will it start? So far, it is not clear when this campaign will start, if it even does.
Overwatch League wants more viewers on Twitch
What is the purpose of this campaign? The numbers of the Overwatch League seem to be declining at the moment. A report from esportsobserver shows that the Overwatch League has lost viewers in the last phases compared to the first season.
However, the number of hours watched has increased, which could be due to more viewers watching the replays in hopes of tokens for the Overwatch League skins.
What the Overwatch League is already doing: Currently, the Overwatch League offers so-called “Twitch Bounties“. Bounties are tasks that streamers can complete on Twitch to earn a specific amount of money.
The league offered through the Bounty Board that a short clip from the channel would be shown. At the end of the stream from the streamer, the league’s channel should then be “raided”. Thus, all active viewers are redirected to the Overwatch League unless they leave the raid.
Streamers react mixed: There are various reactions among streamers to Blizzard’s action. The Fortnite streamer Ryan “Chap” Chaplo reacted with a rather harsh insult to Blizzard’s offered bounty. Note: The clip, which involved various aspects of Chaps’s anatomy, is no longer available. However, it can still be seen via Dotesports .
Another streamer, Rajj Patel, who is known for podcasts, dating shows, and other entertaining content, accepted the offer. Although he has little to do with eSports, he redirected his viewers to the Overwatch League.
Some of his viewers were confused by the sudden switch, but Rajj gave a short explanation:
While the Overwatch League strives to achieve better numbers on Twitch again, the former head of the league has already turned to new projects:
