After a two-year hiatus, the gamescom finally took place in Cologne from August 24 to 28. However, instead of games, it was primarily the escapades of various German Twitch streamers that made headlines – especially the altercation between Kilian “Tanzverbot” Heinrich, Kevin “Orangemorange” Bongers, and Theo “Scurrows” Bottländer. Now the organizers have commented on the situation in a statement to MeinMMO.
At gamescom 2022, there were several instances of excitement around Twitch streamers:
- On Friday evening, there was a physical altercation between the Berlin streamer Tanzverbot and the casino streamers Orangemorange and Scurrows
- Although the parties involved were allowed back to the fair shortly thereafter, they immediately caused the next scandals
- Even the largest German streamer, MontanaBlack visited gamescom and caused a huge crowd
A lot of attention for the gamescom fight
The altercation has caused quite a stir: The skirmishes between the streamers Tanzverbot, Orangemorange, and Scurrows were reported not only in the gaming scene.
YouTubers published reactions and even the American site dexerto caught wind of the matter. Even the well-known tabloid BILD reported on the incident.
For many gaming enthusiasts, this is unfortunate as they believe that such an event should focus on the games.
“Violence has no place at gamescom“
This is what the organizers say: MeinMMO requested a statement from gamescom, which we are sharing here:
We at gamescom do not tolerate any violence. The incident was quickly de-escalated by our security personnel. We have also spoken with all parties involved and heard all sides. We have made it clear that gamescom is a place where everyone should have fun and there is no room for violence. All parties have told us that they do not wish to take legal action. We respect that.
Organizers of gamescom to MeinMMO
Employees of gamescom are already expressing themselves on social media regarding the incidents. They want to take a closer look at the situations.
Some Twitter users feel that this is not enough. They believe that those involved in the fight should be completely excluded from gamescom this year and next. Even a Twitch ban is being demanded (via Twitter).
The head of marketing and communications at Xbox in Germany also demands more consequences, such as a ban from the event in cases of violence. Gamescom 2022 is not the gamescom she wants to attend (via Twitter).
