When CoD: Warzone 2 opened its doors on November 16, the first Warzone went offline and Caldera, Rebirth Island, and Fortune’s Keep were no longer available. The developers wanted to focus entirely on the launch of the new map Al’Mazrah. Now the first Warzone is back, but many features are missing.
What happened? At the same time as the release of CoD: Warzone 2 and DMZ, the lights went out in Caldera. Activision took the old Warzone offline to fully dedicate itself to Al’Mazrah. However, they promised to bring Caldera back after a certain period.
As it turned out, that was necessary as both Warzone 2 and the completely new DMZ mode have been plagued by a lot of bugs and glitches since their release. The worst glitch in Warzone’s history has also found its way to Al’Mazrah.
Can you play the “old” Warzone again? Yes! The old Warzone is now called Warzone: Caldera and is back after a 2-week break. However, Warzone: Caldera had to leave some feathers behind, as popular modes like Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep are missing. Additionally, you can only play Caldera solo or in a 4-player squad.

Caldera makes a comeback
Is anyone still playing this? With the hype around Warzone 2 and DMZ, Caldera’s comeback has almost gone unnoticed. This could also be due to the fact that the old Warzone is only playable in a very slimmed-down version. Besides the two smaller maps, the Resurgence mode and the cash drop format are also missing.
Nevertheless, a small, dedicated fan community is celebrating the return of the battle royale. Why should you play Caldera? If you feel the same way, you can now jump back into Caldera. You still have access to all your weapons and cosmetics, but keep in mind that you cannot transfer these items to Warzone 2. They are two separate games. But don’t worry, if you still have CoD Points. You can also use this currency in the new CoD.
Additionally, you should be aware that no further updates are planned for Caldera. There will be no new battle pass, and whether the game modes cash drop, resurgence, or the maps Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island will return at a later point is still uncertain.
Fans of Verdansk are likely disappointed as well. At this time, there is no indication that the developers are planning to bring back the popular map. A small consolation: it’s not impossible to return to Verdansk. The popular map has been made playable in CoD Mobile.
How do you start Caldera? This is not immediately obvious at first glance. You can now find Warzone: Caldera under CoD: MW (2019). To be able to start the game, you need to have the Warzone: Caldera content installed, which is nearly 90 GB.
