Recently, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions was announced. Now there is a trailer showing gameplay that makes MeinMMO author Linda Knabe reminisce about the past.
What game are we talking about? Harry Potter: Quidditch Champion is a new game set in the world of Harry Potter. The digital version is set to be released on September 3, 2024, on PS4/PS5, Xbox, and PC (among others on Steam). A version for the Nintendo Switch will follow at a later date.
The game will offer you what the title promises. With a Quidditch team, you will try to become the next champion. And not just within Hogwarts, but worldwide. It’s like FC24, but on broomsticks and with more dangerous balls.
With this principle, Quidditch Champions is virtually the successor to the 2003 PS2 game Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. And with that, it could already be my game of the year, because I’ve been waiting for this game for nearly 20 years.
She has watched the movies countless times in her life, still listens to the audiobooks regularly, and as a child, she spent a lot of time playing Harry Potter games.
Why does the game excite me already? As a child, I loved dreaming myself into the world of Harry Potter, so it was no surprise that I devoured the computer and PlayStation games as well. In 2003, I got Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup in my hands, and when I think back, there was a time when I felt like I existed just to play that game after school.
Now, over 20 years later, I finally get a new game where I can prove myself as a Quidditch player, and I couldn’t wish for anything better for 2024. I’ve been wishing to play Quidditch on my PlayStation again for years, and now this wish is finally going to be fulfilled.
The latest trailer shows that the new game even fulfills the wishes I had as a child while playing. Starting with the fact that I can play Quidditch Champions with my friends.
Whether in co-op mode or in PvP matches, the lonely afternoons in front of my little CRT television are over. Unfortunately, back then, I had no friends who were into video games and would have played with me. Online, it’s going to be much easier to find other players instead of always just playing against the NPCs.
The gameplay trailer has convinced me mainly for two reasons. On one hand, the game seems to bring back the typical “Quidditch mechanics” of the old games, even though it is, of course, much more modern. For example, you can briefly see the glowing rings that you have to navigate through.
Typical for all the Harry Potter games I have played to this day, and something I would have disliked missing. Especially if the controls are maybe a little better today than before, and I don’t want to eventually throw the controller at the screen because I narrowly missed the hundredth ring due to the controls.
Finally, I can become a true champion
On the other hand, I am excited that I can finally create my own character, with which I embark on my path to championship. Instead of just choosing the house or country I compete with, this is something I wished for as a child.
The character editor even looks relatively detailed, and I think it’s great that I can even choose my broom. They all seem to have different stats so that I can hopefully find the perfect broom for my play style.
