Microsoft has introduced the Xbox Wireless Headset. This is a gaming headset that is said to be suitable for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. The device offers both Bluetooth and Xbox Wireless.
The essentials in brief:
- Microsoft has officially introduced the “Xbox Wireless Headset” for Xbox Series X|S and PC. It offers both Bluetooth and Xbox Wireless
- The headset costs €99.99 and will be released on March 16, 2021.
- In the €100 range, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 and Razer Kaira already pose strong competition.
What it’s about: Microsoft has introduced a gaming headset aimed at Xbox and PC players.
With a price of €99.99, the gaming headset is targeted at a wide range of customers. Most users are not willing to invest several hundred euros in a new headset. However, Microsoft is not the only manufacturer looking to offer its headset in this area.
MeinMMO presents the new gaming headset and explains what it can do. We also take a look at the existing competition.

Xbox Wireless Headset – What it can do
What features does it offer? The headset offers you both Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth functionality. If you connect the headset to the console, you don’t need an additional adapter with Xbox Wireless. According to the manufacturer, the battery life is said to be around 15 hours.
Practical here is the ability to connect multiple devices via Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth. This same feature is offered by both SteelSeries’ Arctis 9X and Razer’s Kaira Pro for a significantly higher price.
Additionally, the device supports spatial sound technologies like Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos, and DTS Headphone: X.
What’s included in the package? According to the official site, you receive a USB-C charging cable and a typical user manual along with the gaming headset. An Xbox Wireless or Bluetooth adapter is not included.
If you want to use “Xbox Wireless” on PC, you will need to purchase an adapter separately. This costs around €20.
This is how the headset looks: In addition to the official product video, there are already people who have unboxed the headset. The YouTube channel “Xbox On” has already unpacked the headset and shows you in its unboxing video how the headset looks. We have embedded the (English) video here for you:

Reactions: “This should have happened much earlier”
This is how users are reacting to the headset: Both under the official YouTube video and in the unboxing video from “Xbox On”, many people comment on the new gaming headset.
Positive comments: Many have apparently been waiting for Microsoft to introduce headphones or a headset for the Xbox at some point. Users comment under the YouTube video and in the Xbox subreddit:
- “Definitely feels like something that should have happened years ago.”
- “It looks really great. RIP all overpriced $300 devices from third-party manufacturers.”
- “Microsoft: Hello, are you interested in a wireless headset?” Me: “Take my money.”
- “The headset looks very clean.”
Especially the simple and clear design is praised, without unnecessary frills like RGB lighting and some are also comparing it to the Pulse headset of the PlayStation 5.
Some are already suggesting to Microsoft, “Why not sell a super bundle with Xbox Series X, Elite 2 controller, and Xbox headset for $800?”
This is what critical voices say: However, there are also voices that view the headset critically:
- “It’s a shame that they only support SBC, meaning audio quality when listening to music via Bluetooth will be miserable compared to other Bluetooth headphones that use AAC and/or aptX (like Microsoft’s own Surface Headphones).”
- “You should solve the known issues with wireless headsets that disconnect controllers from the console (necessitating a hard reset of the console) before introducing and marketing a headset.”
- “I will wait for a review before I order one.”
What is this desync issue? The desync issue of the Xbox controller addresses a problem that Microsoft has already stated it wants to address swiftly.
Xbox Gaming Headsets: What can the Competition Do?
This is what the market currently looks like: The headset market is highly competitive and many manufacturers already offer good gaming devices. Microsoft’s new headset is positioned in the price range of €100.
We also present the best gaming headsets for the Xbox Series X|S in our detailed buying guide:
This is what the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 offers: With the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2, there is already a gaming headset that also costs €99.99 and offers similar features.
The Turtle Beach gaming headset delivers good sound quality and provides high comfort for glasses wearers due to its glasses-friendly design. Weighing only 298 grams, the headset does not feel heavy on the head. The built-in wireless function is also exemplary.
Critically noted are especially the average microphone and the cheap-feeling materials. However, you only pay around €100 for the device. For just around €50 more, you can get the Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2, which has better materials.
