In the new Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 for Steam and PS5, a new threat awaits to be turned into minced meat with bolter and chainsword: the Tyranids.
What kind of game is this? Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is a hack-and-slash shooter from the third person, set to be released on September 9 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. It takes place in the Warhammer 40k universe. You can find more information about the game here.
What are the Tyranids? For those who are unfamiliar with this name: Imagine something the size and appearance of the Xenomorph from “Alien,” but now it moves in swarms of thousands of individuals, all solely focused on you.
It is no surprise that the task of eliminating this threat is not left to ordinary soldiers, but to the genetically modified super-soldiers of the Imperium of Man: the titular Space Marines.
The developers showcased what the fight against the Tyranids will look like in the game in a short trailer in July 2024. You can watch it directly here.
What does the trailer reveal? Developer Sabre Interactive provides more information about enemy behavior in a short gameplay trailer: The Tyranids possess a hive mind that directs each individual and makes them merge into a greater whole. Gameplay-wise, this means that they will want to end your life and that of your combat companions without regard for their own.
The trailer names a class of Tyranid enemies: The Hormagaunt are fast but fragile, and therefore do not pose a significant challenge to a Space Marine when they are alone or in small groups. It is a different story when you are overrun by a whole swarm of these creatures – they could then become a real threat.
The developers recommend the heavy bolter to quote: “tear them apart” and keep them at a distance. If that is not enough, engage in close combat with various melee weapons – including the iconic chainsword.
