OpenAI has introduced a new Pro subscription for ChatGPT. The price is around 200 euros per month. However, for very few of you, this new expensive subscription is really worth it.
What is this new subscription? With the new Pro subscription, you will gain access to some new features and improvements to the old options:
- Access to Advanced Voice.
- The o1 model without time restrictions.
- GPT-4o and access to the new o1 Pro.
- Additionally, you will get more computing power for your queries.
However, many basic features of that are also available in the cheaper subscription for 20 euros, which is also offered by OpenAI. The benefits of the ChatGPT Plus subscription for 22 euros have been explained on MeinMMO.
The expensive Pro model is aimed at professionals and researchers
Why is it not worth it? Sam Altman, the head of OpenAI, has already explained that all core functions of o1, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice will be available in the Plus plan for 22 euros per month. Therefore, you do not need to subscribe to the expensive plan to access the newer features. All “new” features are already included in the cheaper subscription.
Additionally, both the “o1 Pro” model and the higher computing power are primarily aimed at scientists and institutions that want to compute very complex tasks or data. If you are not working in science or intending to develop code, you should not purchase the expensive subscription for 200 euros per month.
By the way, OpenAI explains this themselves. On their website, the developer behind ChatGPT states that they are targeting “professionals who need AI intelligence at a research level on a large scale” with the new Pro subscription.
