The new action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem has only been live on Steam for a few days, but players are already raising alarm. Several exploits are apparently circulating that significantly impact the economy in the game. It seems that only a complete server wipe will help.
What kind of exploits are these? There are at least three exploits circulating that negatively affect the “economy” in Wolcen, meaning how much gold and how many powerful items players currently possess:
- one is a magic-find exploit, which allows players to loot an insane number of items of the highest quality levels, “gold” and “orange”
- additionally, players have also found a way to earn unlimited gold
- there’s a possibility to duplicate items
Team says: They are aware of the problems and are working on solutions
This is how the Wolcen team reacts: The Wolcen online servers were offline for most of the weekend. In a blog post about the situation, the Wolcen team states that they are aware of the other issues that have arisen, including those that affect the “economy” of Wolcen, and are working on a solution.
However, it is not known when these solutions will arrive or what they will look like.
Is a wipe imminent? The US website GameRant quotes Wolcen’s community manager, Calistaen, from the official Discord. According to him, no character wipes are planned.

But if these exploits spread and threaten to make progression pointless throughout the game, one wonders how Wolcen plans to manage this without a wipe.
On reddit, a user has already called for a complete wipe of the servers because otherwise the economy of Wolcen would be completely destroyed.
This is what’s behind it: Gold exploits and item dupes are classic problems that loot games suffer from. The magic-find exploit seems particularly severe and leads to spectacular clips.
The Wolcen team is currently facing a lot of issues. It will be interesting to see how they handle the situation.
Update 12:12 PM: Wolcen has presented a plan for the solutions (via reddit):
- the magic-find exploit is said to have been fixed with hotfix 1.0.3.0
- the other “similar issues” are expected to be addressed later this week – presumably referring to the item dupe and gold exploit
Wolcen has had a tremendously successful launch on Steam, but the surge on the servers is causing serious problems:
