The PvP shooter Concord is currently available for testing in a closed beta. Although the first trailer did not resonate well with fans, the early feedback for the beta has been positive.
Why were fans disappointed with Concord? Sony revealed its 5vs5 shooter Concord during the State of Play. However, the first trailer was met with ridicule, as the character designs did not sit well with fans.
The design was said to be the ugliest players had ever seen. The characters looked generic and the color combinations were inappropriate.
But Sony wanted to win over players with a closed beta. This weekend, players who are active PS Plus members or have pre-ordered the game can participate. Initial impressions suggest that the first impression of the game may have been misleading.

Concord convinces with the ‘ugly’ heroes
What do fans say about the beta? In the reddit forum, some positive and negative aspects of Concord are becoming clear. The characters, which players found so ugly in the first trailer, are suddenly the highlight of the game.
Many users write that the heroes feel distinct enough. The character models also appear detailed. User CdrShprd summarizes it well:
I thought I would hate many of these characters, but it’s really fun to play them and I want to learn more about them. I’m most curious about the galactic guide, which contains everything about the story, but it’s not in the beta.

Other positive points are the solid gunplay, the elegant graphics, and the absence of server issues. Overall, the performance is flawless.
On the other hand, there are a few criticisms that Firewalk Studios should take a closer look at. These include the following points:
- Not all characters are balanced yet. Especially Roka and Star Child are overperformers.
- The user interface may not appeal to everyone. There should be an option to customize the HUD.
- Some quality-of-life features are missing. This includes an AFK timer and the ability to join a game after it has started, if one of the players has left the match.
But overall, the comments suggest that the criticisms are things that could be resolved in future patches. Concord is set to be released on August 23, 2024. Until then, the title could be optimized.
Many fans find the shooter enjoyable. Some players say it reminds them of Destiny 2. However, there is another shooter that seems to have drawn much more heavily from Bungie’s MMO shooter: “It served as inspiration” – Developers of The First Descendant respond to plagiarism allegations
