Battlefield 2042 has now been on the market for over 2 years. On March 18, Season 7 is set to start and brings some free content for you. MyMMO editor Dariusz got to try out some content from the season and had fun, even though he was currently tired of PvP. The only question is, whether that is good for Battlefield.
The year 2024 has started very relaxed for me. I took a break from PvP shooters and instead played Palworld and Helldivers. I need that from time to time when I get fed up with the constant competition. As soon as I notice that I get much more excited in games like The Finals or Valorant than I have fun, it’s time for a break again. A few months later, however, I always return to PvP.
When I was invited by the Battlefield developers to try out Season 7, I was actually happy not to be playing any PvP. Especially Helldivers is a lot of fun for me. Of course, I accepted the invitation anyway and yes … how should I put it? Now the grind is calling.
The new map is good, the MP is better
The new weapons are fun for me, and I also found the new map “Harbor” good – and I’m actually not a fan of the 2042 maps. Especially the infantry combat between the houses around the C-flag was entertaining.
However, my highlight was the new submachine gun. The SCZ-3 is as fast as Schmitz’s cat. It has a high rate of fire and can be equipped with a drum magazine. In addition, it has a slightly controllable recoil, allowing me to secure kills that were actually outside the ideal range of a submachine gun. The real counterpart of the SCZ-3 must be the “CZ Scorpion EVO 3”. A weapon I enjoy using in many games.
The new assault rifle, the AK 5C, is also solid and can be used without problems at somewhat larger distances. I don’t know if it has what it takes to be part of the current meta, but it didn’t feel bad.
Season 7 has reignited my fire for PvP …
Season 7 of Battlefield 2042 has reignited my fire for PvP, I just don’t know if I will let it blaze in Battlefield. I like the movement and gunplay of Battlefield 2042 and still find both areas extremely well done. The movement speed, the sliding – I just have fun with it. My problems with the game have always been elsewhere.
So, when I was sliding through the new desert map during the playtest and shooting around with the high rate of fire of the Scorpion, joy actually emerged. I had fun and felt the urge to spend a lot of time in PvP in the coming weeks again. But as I thought about which games I should play then, Battlefield 2042 was rather a marginal aspect.
A short time later, I played Titanfall 2 one evening, followed by Rainbow Six: Siege the next. I have also installed the latest updates for The Finals, Valorant, and Overwatch 2. Battlefield 2042 is also on my SSD but has to share my limited time with many other titles.
The passion is missing
Battlefield has actually awakened exactly the right feeling in me with Season 7. But unfortunately, I know that I primarily had fun with the circumstances of the playtest event.
The players present all wanted to test the new weapons and gathered at locations on the map where that was possible. Tanks and helicopters were rarely used, as there are no new ones in Season 7. In general, the players tried to capture flags and did not only act with the goal of farming kills without helping the team.
I usually lose interest in Battlefield when I get annoyed at being constantly flattened by vehicles on very open maps because the pilot is a young god and I can’t do anything against him. Or when both teams are full of snipers who don’t even try to capture a point.
I simply am not a fan of many 2042 maps. The new map is good, but generally, you don’t play just one map. When I have to play Breakthrough or Hourglass, I actually want to press ALT+F right away. This thought shows me: I enjoy playing Battlefield, but I have no passion for the shooter.
While I do not have a passion for Battlefield, it could be much worse. For example, if the next installment becomes a pure extraction shooter: There are only 2 types of new successful PvP shooters and both are garbage
