The new season of League of Legends has now also started in the LCK, the professional league of South Korea. Right in the first match, it was LoL at a level one could only wish for. World champion T1 faced off against the long-time rival Gen.G. The finale of the Best-of-Three left fans breathless.
Why is the match so special? The rivalry between T1 and Gen.G is legendary. These are the two most important and strongest teams in South Korea, probably even in the world. In 2017, T1 was on the verge of its 4th World Championship, but Gen.G, then still known as Samsung Galaxy, managed to win the title, leading to many difficult years for T1.
In recent years, Gen.G is actually considered the stronger team, with the significantly younger midlaner Chovy (24) expected to be the “face of LoL” and the new superstar, but Faker (28) and T1 have been nearly invincible when it counts and have won the Worlds twice.
Now the two teams met in the first match of the new season in South Korea, and it was a fantastic match.
After 49 minutes in Match 3, the epic finale unfolds
This is the situation before the finale: At the time of the big finale, the encounter was even. In Match 1, T1 won, with Faker playing outstandingly at 9-1-9 on his signature champion Azir.
Match 2, however, was taken by Gen.G. Chovy played defensively as Galio, while veteran Ruler ramped up as ADC on Ezreal.
The crucial situation in the 3rd and final game begins at 49 minutes into the match, as it had already been played for a long time. Gen.G leads with 13-8 and about 9,000 gold. They have pushed T1 back to the Nexus. An insane battle breaks out:
Chovy wins the match after having been on the run
This is how the final fight unfolds: T1 successfully manages to push back the opponents and takes down 3 players from Gen.G while losing only top laner Doran. But on the run, the two superstars from Gen.G, Ruler and Chovy, manage to fight back and eliminate 3 players from T1.
In the end, only Chovy and Faker remain. Chovy now charges in with a minion army, winning the match for himself and his team.
Chovy is also named Player of the Match.
