Black Desert will soon get a new region in Korea. It is expected to come to the West as well. However, even before its release, there is criticism regarding its usefulness.
What kind of region is it? The new region is called Odilita and will be located south of Drieghan. It will continue the story of the Ahibs, who were expelled from Kamasylvia. It will also revolve around the immortal alchemist Caphras.
In the new areas, there will be a new world boss and presumably some new side quests and life-skill items. Furthermore, you will encounter 4 grind zones where you can farm extensively.
However, it is exactly these grind zones and the appearance of the map that are currently causing significant criticism.
Too strong enemies for too little loot?
What are the players complaining about? The reddit user myuushii describes the new grind zones as too difficult and unnecessary. He says:
So far there are 4 grind zones, 3 of them are not used by anyone because they are too difficult and probably yield too little loot (in the 270 solo zone, enemies can One-shot with 350 DPs).
DP in this case stands for a defensive value that reduces incoming damage. Starting from a value of 346 DP, incoming damage is reduced by 20%. However, even that is not enough to keep the enemies in the new area from one-shotting.
This criticism is being contradicted by user manarie1990, though he admits that the enemies can hit quite hard:
I mastered the 270 zone with 320 DP. It feels like Sycraia without slow and debuffs. There’s a new ring there, and the area yields about 18k from trash [N.B.: Loot sold to the vendor serves as a benchmark for earned silver].
I did the 300 zone with 2 friends. The mobs hit hard, but they are slow and easy to kite. […] Here you can find Dandy Crystals, the new world boss, and the trash loot is about 107k.
In the 310 zone, I was one-shot by DK mobs. I couldn’t do much there…
Overall, it seems the zone is tougher, although the rewards do not really increase. 18k trash can be obtained in other places where significantly less AP and DP are required (see Doc from October 2019).
What else bothers the players? In addition to the loot, the appearance of the region is also being discussed. While there are some positive reactions, the majority of players complain that it visually resembles existing zones.
Many players are waiting for announced snow areas or another new biome. They are also annoyed by the loading of textures, which can even be clearly seen in the video.
What did the players praise? Praise has been given for the good soundtrack in the video. It appeals to almost all commentators and distracted some from the visuals of Odilita.
Odilita is coming to us soon
When will the new region be released? Odilita will be released on March 4 in Korea. For us, it will come in the 2nd quarter of 2020, as revealed by the Roadmap for Black Desert.
A release in May is quite likely, as significant updates for Black Desert in the West have been released very strategically so far. Innovations have usually been launched shortly before or after an expansion of WoW.
However, since Shadowlands is still awaited, it is quite possible that Black Desert will go up against New World this time. The new MMO from Amazon is set to be released at the end of May.

What else is happening in Black Desert? Currently, the developers are working diligently to strengthen the old class mechanics and breathe new life into them, so that not only the Awakening builds are played. Recently, the update for the Striker was released on February 26.
Furthermore, there will reportedly be crossplay between the consoles Xbox One and PS4 sometime in March. However, when and if there will be a cross-platform version with PC is still unknown.
