World of Warcraft is not perfect, but the latest raid comes very close. It has been a long time since we had so much fun.
Anyone who has been following the coverage on MeinMMO regarding the new patch in World of Warcraft in recent days will have noticed that I am not happy with everything. Especially the area K’aresh does not appeal to me and has several problems. However, that does not mean that the patch as a whole is bad or not fun – on the contrary. Because the new raid “Manaforge Omega” could be the best raid in the history of World of Warcraft and the Shadow Priest is really great again.
Although we went in “blind” on the first night, meaning without reading boss guides beforehand, we had an extremely fun time and laughed a lot.
Dimensius – The Best Boss in the History of MMO Bosses
I have really thought for a long time about when I had as much fun with a boss fight in World of Warcraft as the fight against Dimensius. Every single phase is cool, full of action, and so epically staged like never before in the history of Blizzard’s MMORPG. Therefore, a brief overview of the phases:
- In Phase 1, you fight on the large platform where Dimensius was summoned. Almost all mechanics are about preventing being swallowed by the Void Lord. You have to resist its pull and fish allies out of the sky who are helplessly floating toward the All-Devourer.
- In Phase 2, you fight in the cosmos and fly from platform to platform to defeat lesser Void Lords that Dimensius has already swallowed. You not only avoid shattering planets but also world-destroying death lasers that can roast you even on your flying mount. You do not fight Dimensius directly here but try to circle around him – which is not that easy given his sheer size.
- In Phase 3, the final phase, it is a classic race against time. Because on the final platform, the space gets smaller and smaller while Xal’atath, Alleria, and the Spacewalker desperately try to stop the annihilation by Dimensius.
Another highlight is the music that plays during this. It cannot be praised enough, as the choir in the background constantly calls out the name of Dimensius, contributing immensely to the atmosphere. It is worth turning on the music in the game here – even if many usually turn it off.
At first, I was worried that the effects in the raid might be too much “Purple on Purple” making them hard to distinguish. But that was not the case. All mechanics are well readable and once you have died to them once, you inevitably understand them.
Raiding – From Tradition to Highlight
Raiding is often just a “necessary evil” or a tradition that I follow. Nothing that is my highlight of the day but just a habit and a reason to do something with the guild. However, in this season, the raid Manaforge Omega is what I look forward to the most. I am really eager to tackle the raid soon on heroic difficulty and sink my teeth into the bosses.
I found the two previous raids, namely the Liberation of Lor’themar and the Palace of the Nerub’ar, to be solid, but Manaforge Omega takes it to a whole new level. Every single boss was fun and in most cases, there were even quite fresh mechanics or at least a mix that you haven’t seen before.
If you’re not sure whether to try WoW again and you have a potential raid group you can join – do it. I can’t imagine there will be another time when this raid feels as wonderful as it does right now.
After all, the community shares this opinion as well – many think that Dimensius is the coolest boss fight of all time.
