In the new trailer for the MMORPG Project BBQ for PC, extensive gameplay is shown and various playable classes are introduced.
What is Project BBQ? The action MMORPG was announced in December 2018 and had already been in development for about a year at that time. The game is set to be released exclusively for PC and uses Unreal Engine 4.
It is based on the popular 2D brawler and hub MMO Dungeon Fighter Online. Elements such as story, classes, and the action-packed combat system are expected to come from DFO. According to publisher Nexon, Project BBQ is hoped to be a true MMORPG with an open world.

Originally, developer Neople aimed for a release in 2020, which has since been postponed.
This is interesting: In the trailer, there is a lot of gameplay material. You can clearly see the individual classes and their playstyles and combos being demonstrated.
- A fighter who uses a katana as a weapon
- A fighter with a greatsword who looks like a berserker class
- A shooter who uses two pistols
- A mage with a staff who uses elemental spells
- A classic fist fighter or monk class
- A possible tank class that uses shield and spear
There is also group gameplay where multiple players face off against bosses.
MMORPG based on Dungeon Fighter Online
The developers behind Project BBQ are Neople, a subsidiary of the Chinese publisher Nexon. Neople is primarily known for the game Dungeon Fighter Online, which has 700 million players worldwide and is one of the most successful games of all time.
Project BBQ is said to be built on the basis of Dungeon Fighter Online. According to Neople, it takes place in a “parallel universe” of DFO. The characters and enemies will be familiar to fans, but their fates in the MMORPG will be different.
What is DFO? The game is a beat ’em up brawler where the player must fight through a 2D environment, similar to games like Double Dragon or Golden Axe.
You fight through hordes of monsters by using complex combos and powerful skills. You can choose from 16 different characters and over 60 advancement classes.
These characters also have their own backstories and you can customize them by equipping them with new costumes and more.
Project BBQ clearly borrows many aspects from its predecessor, although it is said to be a full-fledged MMORPG, unlike the hub MMO DFO. The classes shown in the new trailer, for instance, align with the different characters in DFO.
When will Project BBQ be released? A release date for Project BBQ has not yet been announced. Since it is also an Asian game, it might happen that we have to wait longer for its release in the West even after the launch.
