In Tower of Fantasy, jumping and climbing are of great importance, but players have already identified a problem with the mechanics. MeinMMO shows you what it’s about.
What is the problem? The MMORPG Tower of Fantasy celebrated its release on August 11. Just a day later, videos from players circulating on reddit already show problems with one of the game’s core features – climbing and the associated edge detection. Prior to this, server issues and long waiting times were a big topic within the community.
Now, jumping and climbing are under fire, as this is of great importance in the MMORPG. Generally, the title focuses on fast movement. In the huge map of Tower of Fantasy, towers and platforms are scattered that can be climbed by players – provided it works flawlessly.
However, judging by the players’ criticism, this is not the case, as the video from reddit user Chilicrunch shows, whose character repeatedly slips off an edge. Even when he flew over the tower he was unsuccessfully trying to climb with the jetpack and dropped down onto the platform from above, his character slipped off the edge again.
You can watch Chilicrunch’s video from reddit here:
“I am forced to always use the jetpack”
Is this a common problem? The post from Chilicrunch, which includes the video, has already received 1,100 upvotes and 118 comments after just one day. This gives the impression that the reddit user is not alone with his experience, and the content of the comments points in the same direction:
- Morbu via reddit: “I’m almost sure it would be better to just remove the climbing mechanics and revise the jetpack. That would definitely save headaches for both players and developers.”
- zLSosukezL via reddit: “I tried to climb one of those (towers) with a ladder, but it wouldn’t let me go all the way to the top.
- Brislovia via reddit: “Same here, every time I reached the top, I immediately fell back down.”
- MLWillRuleTheWorld via reddit: “Yes, honestly, the poor edge detection and the bad climbing mechanics are the only things that have really bothered me so far.”
- Nosereddit via reddit: “This is the most annoying thing this game has to offer. I am forced to always use the jetpack.”
The problem with edge detection is so prevalent that reddit user JessySnowdrop even jokingly suggested that this is the reason for the existence of jetpacks (via reddit).
Is there a solution to the problem? Currently, there is no known solution to the problem with edge detection, as it does not seem to be a bug, but rather that the edge detection is currently not optimized. As Chilicrunch showed in his video, using the jetpack is a popular workaround.
What are your experiences with edge detection in Tower of Fantasy? Is this an annoying problem for you as well, or do you think it’s not that bad? Feel free to let us know here on MeinMMO in the comments!
