The new sandbox MMORPG Fractured (PC) is currently in an alpha test. A video shows you what is new, including the skill system. And this is reminiscent of the “hack and slay” Path of Exile.
What is Fractured? The sandbox MMORPG takes place in three worlds, populated by the Beastmen, Humans, and Demons. By choosing a race, you decide whether you want to focus solely on PvE (Beastmen), experience PvE with controlled PvP (Humans), or go all-in on PvP (Demons).
You will forge your own path in these worlds, develop your character, participate in building cities, and can then take part in battles and sieges in the PvP worlds. Or you can become a craftsman or adventurer. The MMORPG is reminiscent of the classic Ultima Online.
Fractured is currently undergoing a new alpha test, which is currently testing, among other things, the extensive talent tree and player cities.
The skill system seems familiar
Why does the game remind of Path of Exile? As seen in the video, Fractured features a complex talent tree. This is very reminiscent of the popular skill system from Path of Exile.
Throughout the game, you collect so-called Knowledge Points, which testers of previous Alphas could use to learn new skills. It is now possible to convert these Knowledge Points into talent points. For every 1,000 Knowledge Points, you receive one talent point.
In total, you can unlock 60 talent points and distribute them in the talent tree. The system here works similarly to the action RPG Path of Exile. You allocate points to a talent as a node and can then branch out to unlock further nodes or talents.
This way, you create your own individual hero. However, since you only have 60 points in total, you must think carefully about how to spend them.

What else is new? Additionally, in the new alpha, it is now possible to build cities together with other players. However, it is necessary to either purchase a Governor Pack from the store or become a governor for a gold fee. Only this way can you claim an area on the massive world map thanks to the SpatialOS technology, where the city is to be built.
Together with other players, you then build structures such as a town hall, a tavern, a magic shop, and more.
This system is intended to be expanded later, for example with sieges and resources near the cities that you must mine.
Here’s how you can participate in the alpha: On the store website of Fractured, you must purchase at least the Legend Pack for €89.99. You will then gain access to the alpha and can join the game.
When is the game releasing? The MMORPG Fractured is increasingly taking shape as a finished game. Nevertheless, the release is not expected until early 2022.
So while Fractured is still a bit away, you can check out other interesting MMORPGs in the meantime. In the MeinMMO list “16 exciting MMORPGs that we expect only from 2020“, you’re sure to find a game that appeals to you.
