In June, the survival MMO ARK: Survival Evolved celebrates its 5th anniversary. Accordingly, the free and popular mod map Crystal Isles will be officially added to the game. However, only for PC. PS4 and Xbox One players will have to wait.
Update, June 4, 2020: In a message to the community, Studio Wildcard (via ARK Forum) stated that the planned 5th anniversary celebration in ARK will not take place on June 4.
Given the current situation in the USA and the rest of the world, we will postpone the in-game celebrations to Thursday, June 11.

The celebration of this milestone is currently seen as inappropriate. This also postpones the launch of Crystal Isles: “We understand that our community was eagerly awaiting the ARK in-game party and the release of Crystal Isles, and we look forward to bringing you all that we have prepared next week.”

After it was announced by Wildcard in March 2019 that the popular mod map Crystal Isles would be officially made available to all players, there is now a release date.
Then Crystal Isles goes online: The fantasy map is set to go live on June 4 (now June 11 – see update above), but there is no specific time yet. However, console players will have to wait a little longer. It is stated in the current community crunch that the map for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will appear later in the summer.
This is what makes Crystal Isles so special: The map can be classified as belonging to the fantasy and science fiction genre and offers some cool biomes that ARK players have not seen before. The original mod version offered players many exciting things to discover:
- Many different biomes in 28 regions, including flying islands
- Dead carcasses cause a debuff
- Saltwater dehydrates the body
- Floating elemental bubbles and electric waves in the Eldritch Isle region
- 21 unique creatures, including zombies and liquefied dinos
- 147 creatures from the ARK lineup
- 4 bosses
You should know: The Crystal Isles map will not be released on June 4 (Now June 11 – see update) in the same manner as players know it from the mod. Due to the console versions, most mod maps have to be cut down. This was also mentioned to us by the well-known ARK modder Nekatus, when he spoke with us from MeinMMO in an interview about his new map Fjördur.
What is missing has not yet been disclosed by Wildcard. However, in the community crunch, they mention that they are listening to fans and that the Crystal Wyverns will remain a tamable creature on the map.
New, real dinosaur for everyone
Additionally, Wildcard is releasing a new dinosaur based on a real-life model. This dinosaur is not supposed to be limited to Crystal Isles and will be available to all players.
This is the new dinosaur: The specific dinosaur has not yet been officially revealed. However, a teaser image shows that it is a flying reptile large enough to carry a turret.
These are the ideas from the community: The ARK community is active, and it is not surprising that they have some initial ideas about what dinosaur this may be. There are mainly two hypotheses:
Both creatures belong to the family of Ornithocheiridae and are carnivores. They can apparently stay in the air for a very long time, and the community compares them to the Quetzal.
Which flying creature it will ultimately be is something we will see upon release. Until then, you can catch the top 5 flying dinos of 2020.
