The second new job of the Shadowbringers expansion of Final Fantasy XIV is now known. The Dancer will be introduced on July 2nd
in the game, but it is different than many expected.
What is the new job? The Dancer is the second new job that will be playable in the upcoming expansion Shadowbringers in Final Fantasy XIV.
This is a ranged DPS that wields throwing weapons. In the artworks and the trailer, only chakrams were shown for now, however, Director Yoshida emphasized that the job will be able to use other throwing weapons as well.
For example, he mentioned throwing knives or darts as possible options.
- Starting level of the job is 60 (expected).
- The starting quest for the Dancer is located in the city of Limsa Lominsa.
- To unlock the job, players must own the Shadowbringers expansion and have at least one other job at level 60.
Like the other two ranged DPS, Bard and Machinist, the Dancer will have strong support abilities to assist the group in battle.

What did players expect? Rumors that the Dancer would be the second new job of Shadowbringers have been circulating in the community for a long time.
An info leak has correctly predicted many upcoming contents of the patches and the fan festivals. This includes, for example, the tank job Gunbreaker or the new race of the Viera.
However, according to the leak, the Dancer was expected to take the healer role in the party. Accordingly, many were counting on another healer instead of a DPS and are now disappointed.
Currently, the distribution of jobs in combat roles in FFXIV looks like this:
- 3 tanks
- 3 healers
- 4 melee DPS
- 3 casters
- 2 ranged DPS
Together with the Gunbreaker job, players will therefore receive a new ranged DPS and a tank in the Shadowbringers expansion.
